Introduction

Double blind per the usual.

Pizza, Burgers and Meatballs, plus some truffle cheese. Missing our 6th amigo due to sickness but another good time in spite of it.

Flight 1 - Kicked off with a customary white (1 note)

White
2017 Kongsgaard Chardonnay USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
Just a beautiful expression of a cali chard in the best sense. Notes of vanilla, honey, citrus and faint orange marmalade in a restrained way. Well balanced on the palate, with no noticeable oak on the finish. Just a pure expression of the fruit.

Flight 2 - Main stage (5 notes)

Red
2017 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Soft entry with a touch of spice. Bigger styled than the rest, with notes of tree bark, bbq spice and faint bacon. Finished 3 of 5.
Red
2016 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
93 points
Some cool funk on the nose. Comes across as a structured pinot, but nice precision. Notes of earth and tree bark. Has a long life ahead of it. Finished 1 of 5.

Cola and tannin. Powerful bouquet with a touch of oak. Not a style I appreciate. Finished 5 of 5.

Beautiful port in prime drinking window. Fig, cherries and cocoa on the nose and finish. Smooth as silk on the palate. Very tasty.

Closing

Not a collection of large scaled pinots. Big surprise was the 13 year old grand cru finished last.
