Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2004 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne
Really perplexed by this. Reduction, slate, gunpowder and smoke, savoury and resinous. None of the white peach or dusted cocoa that the box-insert described. Definitely very energetic, pretty long, but that reduction on the nose had me checking and re-checking that it wasn't corked (somm thought it fine).

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2016 Michel Bouzereau et Fils Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Lovely oaky savoury frame around steely core. Not about the ripe fruit. Long finish.
White
2016 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc Chante-Alouette France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Glycern, lanolin, thick and rich. Sour white peach. Very different, very enjoyable.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2012 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dark and glossy, well-balanced. Classic nose, but more tar and wet earth than roses; quite dark. Very fine tannins

Red
2013 Podere Le Ripi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Lupi e Sirene Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Softer and sweeter than the 2012 Poggione Brunello which preceded it, more red fruit and more flowing. Decanter describes "grace and stealth" - nice.
Red
2007 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore
WoTN? Luscious, sweet fruits and dark earth, really compelling. Complex yet seamless.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
2012 Azienda Agricola Musella Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
Made by a female winemaker who cuts her vineyards by hand, at night at specific phases of the lunar calendar. She also plays music to her vines. Dense and sweet, sweetness enhanced by the Ornellaia 2007 which preceeded it. Rasins. Well balanced and restrained. VG with blue cheese.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2013 Royal Tokaji Wine Co. Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos Blue Label Hungary, Tokaji
From halves. Like drinking pineapple, with dried apricots and peach. Still clean and fresh. Good.

2009 Domaine Pouderoux Maury Grande Réserve France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Maury
A bit much for me on its own
