2015 Château d'Angludet
91 points
Evenly split between Cabernet and Merlot, with 10% Petit Verdot to add spice and colour. A little bit green and closed on the nose at first, with flowers coming through. Dark cherry menthol on the palate, cinder toffee, tannin already resolved - pretty forward overall. Seems balanced and not overdone despite the vintage.

2005 Château Siran
90 points
Evenly split between Cabernet and Merlot, with 10% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Lovely floral nose. Rather tough going after only a two hour decant but softened up a lot after a further hour in the glass. Dark and chewy and more spicy than the d’Angludet. Earthy and a bit brooding. Juicy fruits and finally menthol on the finish.

Red
2005 Château Giscours
91 points
62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot 8% Cabernet Franc. Some maturity evident from looking at it. Lots of fruit and spice on the nose. Lovely chew and spice on the palate. Big tannins, lots of concentration. Some toffee oak on the finish. Gorgeous and persistent flavour in the mouth. Could do with another few years IMO. Very nice wine.

2009 Château Cantenac Brown
91 points
More primary and fruity than the Giscours. Chocolate mint on the nose. Big charge of dark berry fruit and coffee unfurls in the mouth for some time. Velvety tannins all pulling in the right direction. Too smooth?

2009 Château Prieuré-Lichine
90 points
Gorgeous ruby colour. Lovely sweet-fruited nose, almost Burgundian. Some game on the palate already. Tannins definitely present – really chewy – and feels slightly excessive (hot, spicy) through the mid-palate compared to the Cantenac Brown. Big wine but a bit truncated on the finish.

2009 Château Rauzan-Ségla
92 points
62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 1% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Lots going on here. Tobacco on the nose. Big, spicy flavour with lovely grippy tannic package. Lovely dark, persistent finish. Deep and delicious, but didn't blow me away enough to justify the high price.

Decent to good wines, but not convinced by the commune style on show: would probably rather go Burgundy for elegance, Barolo for perfume, or Pauillac for power, rather than choose a (far from cheap) wine that exhibits a compromise of all three.
