Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
1995 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
91 points
Medium straw gold. Upfront white pepper aromas, as well as ripe peach and melon, with hints of hay and honey. Medium bodied, somewhat acidic, and a good amount of pepper and nutmeg spices, as well as an obvious honeyed character, ripe peach, nectarine, and white pepper. Fairly long, spicy finish
White
2015 E. Guigal Condrieu France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Condrieu
91 points
Pale lemon. Pronounced, very floral aromatic nose, and with some pear and cinnamon. Nearly off-dry, full-bodied, with a good measure of oak spices like cinnamon, and even slight vanilla, and juicy ripe pear. Pretty upfront though, leaving only the baking spices on the finish. But nevertheless a pleasant one

Red
2005 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d'Ampuis France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
89 points
Deep purplish ruby, with some edge fading. A somewhat restrained herbal nose, with a bit of blackberry and cocoa. Tannic, pretty juicy, and the blackberry fruits are pretty ripe, and a bit of alcohol heat and paprika spice, a slight purple floral feel, and a slight bit of tar towards the back. Finish seemed lacking, with only tar and heat
Red
2002 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Deep ruby, and seems having a blackish tone, and slight edge fading. Nose that started off as slightly restrained and herbal, and then a good nuance of purple flowers and ripe blackberry, and nutmeg. Tannic, high alcohol, with a lot of pepper, and blackberry flavours, and heightened alcohol. Then some redcurrants and fern leaf emerge, along with clove and nutmeg spices. The redcurrant persisted onto the back, with a fairly long finish. Nice!
Red
1983 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
88 points
Somewhat pale garnet, and significantly fading browning edges. Aromas of ripe, candied strawberry, and some cinnamon and vanilla. Tannins resolved, but still some acids, and with pepper, cinnamon, and strawberry flavours. Definitely some age has caught up with this, where a lot of power has been stripped off, leaving a rather simple spiced berry juice. Quite a bit of spice on the finish. Can imagine it much better when about a decade younger

Red
1995 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
96 points
Medium ruby core, with browning and significantly fading edges. Pronounced aromas of dark florals, mesquite smoke, and black plums. Tannic but soft, high alcohol, intense dark florals, smoked spices, plums with candied ripeness, and a good savoury mushroom and herbal feel, as well as coffee grounds. Long finish of plums, spices and herbs. Splendid!
Red
1990 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
95 points
Deep ruby, with browning and fading edges. Aromas of paprika, blackberry, fern, and smoke. Soft tannins, big alcohol heat, blackberry flavours, and a savoury kick of pepper, meats, mushroom and soy. The mushrooms and meats persist, to a very long finish. Excellent wine!
