First post-circuit breaker lunch. This took a little while in the decanter to get going, but was really charming when it did. The nose was young but expressive, with little notes of loamy earth floating around higher toned aromas of red cherries, spice and a little kiss of florals. The palate was really clean and lively, with a lovely juiciness and cut lent to its red cherry and berry flavours by a backbone of fine tannins and fresh acidity. A bit sweet and primary still, but this is a stylish Gevrey village, still with its best years ahead of it.

Very pleasant. This was classic Bordeaux, with drifts of tobacco leaf and damp earth, cassis, cedar and wood spice. Sweet but lovely, and still very Bordelaise. The palate was clearly not from a blockbuster vintage, but there was a nicely elegant shape and purity to it, with a chew of fine tannins and bright acidity framing a mid-bodied mouthful of cassis fruit; these again seasoned with a bit of spice and cedar. A touch on the light side, but not lacking in either persistence or complexity. Drinking fresh and nicely with a pork rack, this should continue to improve over the short to medium term.
