White - Sparkling
N.V. Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Consistent with previous note and score. There is toast, there is lemon and acid, neither dominate. The pear flavor stands out. Well balanced.

Flight 2 (5 notes)

White
2012 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay USA, California, Napa Valley
92 points
Semi-blind, steely, good fruit, slightly sweet with great minerality. Apple stands out on the palate.
White
2015 Liquid Farm Chardonnay Four USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
92 points
Drank semi-blind, this had the most minerality of the group, including the 2012 Montelena. Flinty, wet stones, lemon and apple. My #2 wine.
White
2014 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Cuvée Agustina USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain
Served single-blind. There was much discussion about whether this wine was flawed, but we settled on the theory that this wine was not flawed, rather the style is modern and spoofed. This wine exhibits fruit flavors that do not occur in nature. Thick mouthfeel, nose is complex but with a fermented fruit type quality. Slightly compelling but weird, like the hot green aliens on Star Trek.
White
2009 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
91 points
Single blind, this was big and rich. There was no noticeable alcohol. The mouthfeel is dense and it seemed to be too big and spicy for me as a chardonnay. Others disagreed, this was the Wine of the Night, but did not make my top 3. And just to be clear, I love Leeuwin Art Series chardonnay, it is a world class wine, I have brought it to tastings where the theme was Australia and nobody suspects you'd bring a white. I'm only speaking about my personal experience with this specific bottle. I have scored Leeuwin Art series chardonnay much higher on several occasions. And this was still a great showing.

2013 Mayacamas Vineyards Chardonnay Terraces USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder

Served semi-blind, I loved this wine, it was my Wine of the Night, and NOBODY else had it in their top 3. I loved the tangyness and the brightness. It had gorgeous fruit and was so lively. Others felt it was alcoholic, which I am normally very sensitive to, and I did not get the alcohol. I feel I need to try this wine again due to the polarizing opinions about this specific bottle.
