Flight 1 (8 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château Rieussec France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
94 points
Magic! Pineapple, marmalade, ginger, honey, nutmeg... a long, delicate, yet intense finish.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Wiens Family Cellars Amour De L'Orange USA, California, South Coast, Temecula Valley
78 points
100% Chardonnay, 4% residual sugar. Fruity aromas with flavors of pear, coconut, pineapple, and orange. Ok for what it is.
2018 Squealing Pig Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough, Awatere Valley
86 points
Bursting with bright grapefruit, unripe passionfruit, citrus, herbaceous, and fresh herbal flavors.
2015 Domenico Tappero Merlo Erbaluce di Caluso KIN Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Erbaluce di Caluso
92 points
Medium-bodied, rare white varietal with yellow apple, white flowers, mineral, and light oaky, buttery notes. Singing finish! Wine has a reputation for picking up intense mineral notes as it ages.
2017 Vorspannhof Mayr Zweigelt Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal
87 points
Fruity, juicy, and focused. Ripe cherries, mulberry, spice, and green stem, leafy flavors. Some tea notes to go with the strawberry.
2016 Walla Walla Vintners Sangiovese Columbia Valley USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
91 points
Bright, fruit-filled aromas of raspberry, cranberry, licorice, spice, and mineral; light red fruit on the palate and a tart acidic backbone. Quite pleasurable!
2016 Château Lafitte France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Premières Côtes de Bordeaux
89 points
Full-bodied, chewy Merlot-based Cotes de Bordeaux that is full of berries and savory flavors of tobacco and fresh herbs; and earthy notes of graphite and minerals. Medium, coarse tannins. Opened about an hour before tasting and then given a quick 15 minute decant.
2000 Château Faugères France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Waited too long, over-the-hill. The nose was all over-ripe prune and raisin. Tasted flat. Could have been cooked, could have been oxidized. For a 20-year-old cork, there was hardly any staining and the cork was removed without difficulty.
