Flight 1 (11 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Yann Alexandre Champagne Grande Réserve Courmas France, Champagne
87 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Bready style with good depth and concentration, coming across as red grape dominant. 2010 base (60%) with the balance from reserves. Certainly good, just not my preferred style.
White - Sparkling
2017 Coessens Champagne Les Sens Boisés Extra-Brut Largillier France, Champagne
90 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Bright, crisp and precise, more than typical for most Blanc de Noirs. Nicely floral and berried with very good length. Good already now.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Coessens Champagne Exogyre Extra-Brut Lieu-dit Largillier France, Champagne
88 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Bigger and richer but with less tension. here the Pinot Noir character dominates, both for better and worse, with the Extra Brut nature also much more pronounced throughout. Done in Solera style.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Lassaigne Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs La Colline Inspirée France, Champagne
88 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Big and heft, nearly fat with good richness, but just slightly lacking chiseled precision for me. From 2012/ 2013 vintages, disgorged March 2020.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Lassaigne Champagne Les Vignes de Montgueux Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne
89 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Yellow and green apple with crisp character and textures throughout that seemed Chablis-like to me. MAde from younger vintages, most likely for early enjoyment. Medium/ good weight. Very good now. Good value Champagne.
White - Sparkling
2013 Champagne Suenen Champagne Grand Cru "Le Mont-Aigu" Extra Brut Millésime Chouilly France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Bit bready with lots of fleshy apple and pear, perhaps tropical hints I found odd and enjoyable. Very good density and potential for complexity to unfold. So much here. 40+ yo vines, steep slope, 60 months on lees. (0 points with upside from there.
White - Sparkling
2013 Champagne Suenen Champagne Grand Cru "Les Robarts" Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Millésime France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. I found this even more intriguing than Mont-Aigu. Brighter and longer with toasted rye with a complex finish already unfolding. Slightly sweet hints on finish that I expect/ hope will soften, but this is long and enticing, even if no bargain.
White - Sparkling
2015 Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Cramant France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Bright and lithe, so classically Chardonnay-like with clean, crisp lines and textures all the way through to long-ish finish. Very good already. My preferred type of Champagne, even in its Extra Brut (3g/L) style.
White - Sparkling
2015 Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Les Crayères France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Very berry from start-to-finish. Much more powerful and attention-seeking vs Cramant, but also slightly awkward and less graceful (for me). But most others preferred this wine.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Georges Laval Champagne Extra Brut Garennes France, Champagne
90 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. 2018 base with reserve. Both very bright and dense with wonderful balance and harmony. Meticulous throughout with good enough weight and a long+ finish. This will drink well young.
White - Sparkling
2018 Georges Laval Champagne Premier Cru Brut Nature Cumières France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
91 points
Tasting, small glass, brief note. Dense and nicely powerful, yet with softer textures and effervescence. Also very bright, but less harmonious right now vs Garennes, with a slightly awkward and angular finish that needs a few years in the cellar to soften. Very good 91+ point potential, 2024 forward.
