Introduction

Wagyu sliders with truffle fires by Scott. We all brought our own stems to be more COVID compliant

Flight 1 - A typical white to start the evening. (1 note)

Very nice chardonnay. I've never had this producer before and would seek this out int he future

2017 By Farr Chardonnay Côte Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong

Enjoyed everything about this chardonnay. Clean fresh and almost refreshing. Faint white flowers, creamy vanillin and a touch of honey on the nose. On the palate, well balanced, decent acidity and not at all over bearing. Very much in proportion and overall pleasing. Finish was a tad short, but did not detract from the overall experience.

Flight 2 - The Aussie's (6 notes)

Interesting that we ended up with 2 of the same wines, albeit from different vintages. 2009 Chateau Tanunda was a big diappointment. I was looking for something new to try that was from old vines but it was terrible.

Light ruby in color with a nose of cranberry, strawberry, faint menthol and slight confection. Nice smooth finish, but this wine could not stand up to the shiraz's in the tasting (except for the 2009 Chateau Tanunda, which was clearly the worst wine. Finished 5 out of 6.

A touch of play dough/bandaid on the nose along with dark fruits - blackberry/boysenberry. Fully packed and stacked on the palate, layers of flavor. Large-scaled but well balance for its mass. Finish lasted quite long. Beautiful wine! Finished 1 out of 6.

Dark fruits and minerals on the nose, along with some earth and tree bark. LArge-scaled fruit on the palate, and a plushness to the fruit. Could use a little more acidity but very good for its style. Finished 2 out of 6.

Dark fruits and a piney menthol action on the nose. Really classy on the palate, a decent undergird of acidity. Beautiful flavor profile. A decent finish but cut off a tad short. Still a very nice wine! Finished 4 out of 6.

Dark in color with notes of blackberry, subtle smoke and a touch of earth on the nose. Earthen notes carry through as flavor on the palate. Finishes lithe on the palate, which did not coincide with the expectation based on the color and nose. Very nice wine. Finished 3 out of 6.

2009 Chateau Tanunda Shiraz 100 Year Old Vine Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Nearly undrinkable. Odd nose of crazy strong puffy play dough. and some dark fruits. I could not get past the nose to drink it. Others in the group got the same note but it was drinkable from their standpoint. Unrated due to a bad bottle, but this finished 6 out of 6 wines.
