Introduction

Birthday dinner for April stars, and we had great food in a Chinese restaurants

Flight 1 - Bubbles and white (3 notes)

White
2013 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
Bottle breathe for 1.5 hour. Discrete nose of honey, white flower and citrus (but not overwhelming). The palate shows integrated white flowers and gentle acidity. Good wine but not as powerful as a usual bottle you would expect from Martray.
White
2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
95 points
Breathe before serving (for unknown time). Oaky, smoke and full body with good mix of white flower, acidity and long finishing. This bottle is so balanced and tasted very well now.

Flight 2 - Red (6 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
Bottle breathe for 1.5 hours. Already passed the peak at serving, which was (and was not) a surprise given Ghislaine Barthold and 2009 vintage. When a GB bottle is good, this could be really good. This one however tasted like old burgundy in 90s (if not 80s) but still drinkable. Drunk up in 30-40 min.
Red
2017 David Duband Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
94 points
Bottle breathe for unknown time. Surprisingly integrated nose and palate given this is only 4 years ago. Hint of light cherry, raspberry and tea. A bit thin in texture but overall very enjoyable for now. Interested to see how it goes in two years time.
Red
2013 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
91 points
Bottle breathe for 1.5 hours, and double decant before serving. Very discreet nose of strawberry; the palate is rather simple as Musigny GC, and light weight. It offers some raspberry, some hint of wood and medium finishing. It doesn’t evolve much in the glass. A disappointment.
Red
2009 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
93 points
Bottle breathe for 2 hours, and 1 extra hour before serving. Nose of dark fruit, and wood/ smoke. The palate offers some complexity and the tannin is quite integrated. Peaked 2-3 hours after opening up at the dinner place.
Red
2013 Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
93 points
Bottle breathe for 1.5 hours. Another 1.5 hours at dinner place and double decant before serving. Surprisingly not easy to open compared to Amoureuses and Lat Chambertin 2013 of the same Domaine. Opening up after another 30-40 min in the glass. Complex nose with wood, red fruit. You could feel the tannin here but also the complexity in the palate. Medium finishing. I would tend to try this 5 years from now.
Red
1968 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
93 points
Decanted for 1.5 hours before serving. Fully integrated, and it offers quite strong taste of soil - quite typical for vintage Barbaresco. Powerful and long finishing.
