Very berry throughout with medium+ weight, bright textures start-to-finish.

Fleshy apple throughout with some Meyer lemon hints. Fun and easy in the style of the ripe vintage, but with plenty of acidity and brightness on finish. Very good now.

White
2005 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

05/06/08/16 vertical. Started out reasonably drinkable, but clearly getting oxidized after 10-15 minutes in glass.

2006 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

05/06/08/16 vertical. Rich apple, some peach, spice and floral hints. Best within 30 minutes after popped-and-poured, slightly less interesting when finished.

05/06/08/16 vertical. Enticing floral start, very similar to the 2016, but with more restraint. Nicely bright and fresh throughout, this shows plenty of apple and pear with both ripe and tart features. Very good length, very good density.

Alluring aromatic start with ripe orchard and stone fruit, intense floral elements, and a touch of new oak that will integrate better shortly. Similar flavors with near Grand Cru density. My favorite of the vertical based on its potential, better 2024 forward.

Red
2009 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

09/10 single blind. This was lush and rich with very good density, perhaps less perfectly balanced than the 2010, but richer, bigger and more cellarworthy. I ever-so-slightly preferred the 2010, but the group was evenly split. But we all correctly identified which was which vintage.

09/10 single blind. Elegantly styled with black and red cherry throughout, this is ready now and I'm not sure about further upside given its lighter density vs the 200. I ever-so-slightly preferred the 2010, but the group was evenly split. But we all correctly identified which was which vintage.

2009 Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune 1er Cru Les Aigrots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Bright mostly red fruit with very good polsih and balance, surprisingly lean and precise for the vintage. Served single blind after 09/10 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus, we knew this either another Baby Jesus or another 2009 or another 2010. I thought it was another 2010.

Red
2012 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Alongside the amazing 1997. Ripe and well balanced, but surprisingly simple for the vintage, which I often find backward. Very enjoyable, with modest nuance coming through today.

1997 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Alongside the 2012. I have frequently enjoyed this wine, but tonight's bottle was the best I can ever recall. Enticing combination of fresh and mature red and black cherry with earth and mushroom notes. Layered textures and flavors, this kept opening and unfolding in ever-more intriguing ways. My WOTN, most others agreed.

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
1990 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Great aromas of a ripe, fully mature Burgundy with spice, earth and mature cherry. Palate was much less complete and certainly less bright and exciting. Blind flight, we know this was a vertical or horizontal, and I thought 1990 horizontal based on the ripeness and age of the Ursules.
Red
1990 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
87 points
Balanced and enjoyable, I often find Couchereaux to require patience, and this is now a good place, even if not living up to the expectation of a very good vintage. Blind flight, we know this was a vertical or horizontal, and I thought 1990 horizontal based on the ripeness and age of the Ursules.
Red
1990 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Easily the star of the flight. Black and red cherry with good grip and energy, showing plenty of meaty notes. Ripe with good density, on its own I might have thought it 1999 or 2002. Blind flight, we know this was a vertical or horizontal, and I thought 1990 horizontal based on the ripeness and age of the Ursules.
