Flight 1 (10 notes)

White
2017 Oremus Furmint Tokaji Petracs Hungary, Tokaji
91 points
[Blind tasted] - No clue, guessed a white from Spain. A dry Furmint from 60 year old vines from a Vega Sicilia enterprise, aged for 5 months on new French oak and 3 months on used French oak.
A bit of cumin, flowers, honey, beewax, tangerine, slightly oxidative, balanced oak. Interesting but not something I would seek out more often.
High acidity, long finish

White
2014 Dr. Loosen Erdener Prälat Riesling Großes Gewächs Alte Reben Reserve Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
93 points
[Blind tasted] - Correctly identified as a Mosel Riesling, but not a the top cuvee from Dr Loosen. Made from ungrafted 120 year old vines from the small (1.6ha) and steep Pralat vineyard.
Subtle, but clearly a riesling. Spicey, lots of minerality, citrus, white peach, a salty note.
High acidity, long and lingering finish, special

White
2017 Antonin Guyon Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
91 points
[Blind tasted] - Correctly identified as Cote de Beaune, but I thought it was a Puligny instead of a Meursault. Very flinty on the nose, broad use of oak, toast and citrus. Not very complex, but very a nice. Somebody called it a “a guilty pleasure” and I very much agree.
High acidity, long finish
White
2018 Bodegas Felix Callejo El Lebrero Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León
89 points
[Blind tasted] - Interim wine - no clue where it was from. Peach, apricot.
Medium acidity, medium finish
Red
2001 Bodegas Pintia Toro Pintia Spain, Castilla y León, Toro
94 points
[Blind tasted] - Guessed a Rioja, not Toro. Very nice, has aged gracefully. Ripe cherries, plum, spicey, mint, ceder. Very deep and still maintaining tis freshness.
Medium acidity, very fine tannins. Long finish that keeps evolving
Red
2007 Château Nenin France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
90 points
[Blind tasted] - Not identified as right bank Bordeaux. Cherry, plum, ceder, a hint of yoghurt
Medium acidity, long finish
Red
2008 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla El Nido Spain, Murcia, Jumilla
94 points
[Blind tasted] Spicy, cherry, blue berry, pipe tobacco, ceder.
Has almost a sweet (primitivo-like) note to it
Medium acidity, long finish, finely grained tannins
White
1996 Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières-Coulée de Serrant
95 points
[Blind tasted] - Not identified as a Chenin Blanc. What a joy and for me the clear WOTN. Great old chenin profile: oxidative, honey, wool. Keeps evolving in the glass

2017 Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
[Blind tasted] - Not expected to be such a young Barolo. Quite primary of course, but the tannins are very approachable already
White
2012 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
91 points
