Tasting evening with our WSET 2 group and Lukas Wiegman who brought all the wines
Flight 1 (3 notes)
White
2017 Devil's Corner Riesling

[Tasted blind] - Misstook it for a Wachau Smaragd from 2017, but quite impressed with my first Tasmanian Riesling. On the nose typical riesling, not too much fruit, a bit of yellow apple, apricot. Riper on the palate. Long finish, high acidity
White
2020 Weingut Thörle Riesling Trocken
89 points
[Tasted blind] - Thought it was a young Alsace village riesling wine. Extreme expressive on the nose (roses, apple sauce). Softer on the palate (yellow apple). Long ripe grapefruit finish
White
2019 Trimbach Riesling
88 points
[Tasted blind] not identified as Alsace. Muted, took time to open up, a bit saline, chalk. Green apple, long finish

White
2018 Weingut Schätzel Niersteiner Ölberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
92 points
[Tasted blind] - Correctly identified as a 2018 Mosel Riesling. As 2018 was a warm vintage, already quite developed. On the nose petrol, soft ripe citrus, pear, slate, minerality, almost a bit strawberry sweets. Very high acidity
White
2017 Peter Jakob Kühn Mittelheimer St. Nikolaus Riesling Großes Gewächs
91 points
[Tasted blind] - not identified as Rheingau GG. On the nose yoghurt, vinegar, balsamico, herbs. On the palate better. Long finish

2007 Weingut Reinhold Haart Ohligsberg Riesling Großes Gewächs
93 points
[Tasted blind] - Ripe pear and ripe apple, candied fruit on the nose. It took a bit of time before the palate was as good as the nose; ripe orchard fruit, honey. Medium+ acidity. Wine #2 out of 10 for me
Flight 3 (3 notes)
White
2016 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Ried Loibenberg
93 points
[Tasted blind] Not identified as a Wachau Smaragd because the nose was quite shy at the beginning (very different from the 2018 from the same producer and vineyard I tasted 6 months ago). Pear, ripe apple, apricot, peach, stones. High acidity. Wine #4 out of 10 for me
White
2019 Sepp Moser Grüner Veltliner Von den Terrassen Kremstal
90 points
[Tasted blind] - pear, a bit of exotic fruit.
White
2004 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée "M"
93 points
[Tasted blind] For me the WOTN, lovely developed riesling, with a hint of petrol, honey, spices,
Flight 4 (3 notes)
White
1985 Weingut Robert Zimmer Wawerner Goldberg Riesling
After 35 years still a great structure and very interesting on the nose and palate, certainly still alive and developed (although I don’t dare to say it was extremely enjoyable, more an experience). Earl Grey tea, honey, ‘trekdrop’
Red
2008 Antonelli San Marco Montefalco Sagrantino Chiusa di Pannone

kirsch, gravel, cherries, tar, baking spices. Incredibly high tannins which dominate the palate and finish, unbalanced
