2000 Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Speciale Blanc de Blancs Les Chetillons France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

From magnum. Full, rich, youthful nose of baked apple and biscuit. The palate beams with bright, fresh, energetic fruit. Terrific balance. I didn't know the vintage when initially poured and was guessing 2008+. A a freshly poured glass two hours later was as fresh as the first.
White
2010 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
93 points
Nicely mature aromas with plenty of matchstick. Mature fruit that is still nicely bright and vibrant but starting to soften a bit. Ready to go and at peak.

2009 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

From magnum. Fairly reductive to start and took several hours to come together. When it did this was a powerful, rich and decadent Chablis with lots of nuance and complexity. Needs time or air in this format.

From magnum. Intense aromas of lemon-lime, green apple, and fresh cut herbs. Impressive combination of concentration, brightness and electric energy. Good on pop n' pour and better with a couple hours of air.

Minty, herb, clay and earthy, mature red cherry aromas. A bit austere on the palate with fruit receding.

From 3.0L. Brutally young and primary in this format. Aromas are all cherry vanilla. Ripe, bright, pure and primary fruit but just not at all nuanced yet and with harsh structure. Needs a few decades in this format.

Impressively aromatic with pure rich plum fruit, cigar box and smoke. Fruit is fresh with juicy acids and suave tannin. Still in a peak zone.

From 3.0L. Big bright red cherry with a medley of spice, herb and earth nuances. Really good sweetness and plush fruit, esp. for 2013. Ready to go now and seamless, if a bit one square.

1999 Château Hosanna France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Lots of plummy tobacco with modest spice and menthol. Plump plummy fruit with some modest tobacco and spice. Simple.

flawed
corked, and also dirty.

5L. Really excellent nose that still has rich, sexy plum with some dark chocolate, tobacco and cedar. A little light on the palate, though vintage and age appropriate.

Youthful and attractive aromas of black cherry with intense, singular Vosne spice. Mature, spice-filled black cherry that is midweight at this age. Elegant, spice-filled finish.

1999 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Huge nose with a rich core of cherry made complex with intense spice, florals and sweet earth. Seamless, pure cherry fruit with loads of spice and even some wood toast that remains to be integrated. Wow, so complex in the finish.
Red
2010 Vietti Barolo Castiglione Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

A bit of a fish out of water tonight. Nothing wrong with it as an entry level Barolo, from a quality producer, in an excellent vintage. Shows very young and classic. Still pretty grippy and needs time to come together.

Continues to show youthful but accessible. Rich, decadent cherry aromas with sweet florals and tar. Palate is rich with great concentration. A somewhat sleek profile but fun, youthful and tasty.

Wow, dizzying aromas that span red and black cherry, an array of spices, herbs and florals that present themselves in layers. Palate pops with so much intense complexity in a powerful yet graceful fruit frame. Shows nuanced but still very young. Front end of a long drinking window.

OMG, so much bacon, black pepper, spice and meaty black cherry. The palate is so fresh with dense, rich, thick black fruit with a buoyancy that lifts while providing intensity to the complex flavors.

1970 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley

A fresh and exciting bottle. Lots of minty and cedary plum fruit. Good brightness on the palate with plenty of fruit remaining and nice nuanced flavors.

2003 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

A rich and ripe Bordeaux but never crosses the line to roasted. Primary but approachable with good balancing structure. Emerging cedar and tobacco nuance.

2016 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Practically a barrel sample that is too young to provide any pleasure. Abundant meaty and currently sweet black cherry. Meat and pepper are there if you look hard. Upside from here. Give it a decade or two.

1996 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
96/02 side by side. The 96 is still not quite ready. Good concentration of fruit, that is still young, but still has some rough edges that need to integrate.

96/02 side by side. The 2002 is in a spectacular spot. Big, enticing aromas. Rich, ripe fruit is supple and balanced. Great spice throughout. At peak.

Wow, nose that explodes with Vosne spice, black tea and black cherry. Palate is very rich and wide open for business. Loaded with spice. Great now, but should get even better with another 5-10 years.

2007 Coche-Dury Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Fairly classical Coche with lots of dense, matchstick filled orchard fruit. Still fresh but the honey notes are starting to emerge. Best in the next few years.
Red
2008 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

A great vintage at the Domaine, and while this has all the awesome stem, smoke and spice aromas that I love in Dujac, the palate is still a bit stern and needing some time. Better in 5+ years.

1981 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut Collection France, Champagne
Magnum. Mushroom and earthy orchard fruit aromas. Solid energy for its age but beyond my preferred age and style for Champagne.
Red
1989 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
99 points
An incredible wine. Insanely complex and layered nose with so much going on -- mature, meaty black fruit, bacon, olive brine, black pepper, smoked meat and sweet funk. Sexy fruit that has some sweetness and is crazy complex with a layered array of notes that mirror the nose.
White
2014 Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

In an early peak and pleasure-filled zone. Lots of match-stick and orchard fruit. Good raw power but made fresh and refined with well integrated acidity. Still a bit young, but quite satisfying.
