Flight 1 - Domaine Bruno Clair (4 notes)

Red
2019 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay La Charme aux Prêtres France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
88 points
Walk around tasting. A new single vineyard bottling for Bruno Clair. Simple start, getting bigger, denser, and yummier from middle through finish. I was told this had almost 30% whole cluster, which seems to work great here. Very tasty now through 2030.
Red
2019 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay les Grasses Têtes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
89 points
Walk around tasting. same black fruit profile with more meaty notes. Bigger and dense, but also more firm and slightly backward. Cellar another year or three, enjoy for the following decade+.

Red
2019 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
89 points
Walk around tasting. Riper than the Marsannays just tasted. Brooding black fruit with firm tannins, subtle spice and meat notes. Better 2025 forward.
Red
2019 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
94 points
Walk around tasting. Black cherry and plum with roasted game, liqueur, and anise notes. I was told there was substantial millerandage this vintage, which partly explains the early onset of complex, layered flavors. This is very substantial and concentration start-to-finish, even expanding further on it long finish. Already accessible, but 94-95 point potential here, 2028-2060.

Flight 2 - Domaine Alain Burguet (3 notes)

Red
2020 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Bourgogne Les Pince Vin France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
85 points
Walk around tasting. Lighter than expected for vintage, but fun. Faint bitterness on finish will require a year or two to soften.
Red
2020 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Symphonie France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
88 points
Walk around tasting. A big step up. All black fruit with good weight and balance for its level. Good richness while balanced. Will drink well young, from 2024 forward.
Red
2020 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Walk around tasting. Another clear further step up. Rich blend of all black fruit with nearly 1er Cru density. Already harmonious, this should drink very well 2025-2040.

Flight 3 - Bouchard Père et Fils (2 notes)

Red
2018 Bouchard Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
87 points
Walk around tasting. Like so many 2018s, this is much more firm, less accessible vs when tasted in its adolescence. All black fruit and meaty with very good density for its level. Better 2028 forward.
Red
2018 Bouchard Père et Fils Chapelle-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
93 points
Walk around tasting. Also brooding, this is no shrinking violet. Powerful and dense with lots of power. Good spice (some whole cluster), some warmth (probably helped by aforementioned whole cluster), and lots of roasted meat combine with that black fruit into a complex glass of wine. Patience required, 2033 forward.

Flight 4 - Pierre Damoy (4 notes)

Red
2019 Pierre Damoy Fixin Les Mogottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin
89 points
Walk around tasting. Very tasty already. Good nose, better palate. Well integrated tannins with lots of ripe black fruit. Fun, nothing shy here.
Red
2019 Pierre Damoy Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Tamisot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Walk around tasting. Bigger than the Fixin with a longer finish, while more firm and less accessible. Lots here, better 2026 forward. Reminds me a lot of this wine from 2009, which is drinking so well now.
Red
2019 Pierre Damoy Chapelle-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Lots of ripe black and red cherry with long of roasted meat, but also more firm, powerful tannins than any other wine in the table lineup, so slightly imbalanced. This needs time, 2033 forward, with 91-94 point potential based on how harmonious this becomes.
Red
2019 Pierre Damoy Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
94 points
Walk around tasting. In contrast with the Chapelle-Chambertin, this is near balance already now. Lots of black fruit with faint meat and spice, all well supported by elegant tannins. Rich and intense Grand Cru density here. 94-95 point potential, 2030 forward.

Flight 5 - Domaine Marc Roy (2 notes)

Red
2020 Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
89 points
Walk around tasting. Ripe black cherry and plum aromas, similar flavors with some faint earth. Good overall richness but a slightly warm finish for now. Should drink well young, from 2023.
Red
2020 Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Walk around tasting. Certainly more here vs VV. Sweet black fruit to start through middle, slighter more firm on long-ish finish. Very good density for its level. Better from 2025.

Flight 6 - Domaine (Jean et Jean-Louis) Trapet (2 notes)

Red
2019 Domaine Trapet Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
85 points
Walk around tasting. Big, fun fruit but tannic today for its weight.
Red
2019 Domaine Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée 1859 France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
91 points
Walk around tasting. A new cuvee from plots that previously went into Ostrea (Champerrier and Deree, both near Brochon, west of RN74). Bright and very fresh black and red cherry throughout. Ripe but well balanced, with superior weight and density for Village wine. Beautifully textured as well. Great success, this should drink well young and last a couple of decades.

Flight 7 - Domaine Rossignol Trapet (5 notes)

Red
2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
89 points
Walk around tasting. Recently bottled. Red and black berries on nose, lots of bright black berry and cherry flavors with spice notes. Very bright and balanced, good 2025 forward.

Red
2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
91 points
Walk around tasting. In tank. Even brighter yet, while bigger. Lots here with a slightly firm finish. Good from 2025.
Red
2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Latricières-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. In tank. Lots here, but it seems to be burrowing into a hole for a while. Dense, black and really brooding, but without being overwhelmingly tannic. Long finish with a burst of energy. Cellar for 15+ years, 92-95 point potential.
Red
2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
94 points
Walk around tasting. In tank. Brighter and more balanced vs Latricières-Chambertin. I am not sure which will be better twenty years now, but this Chapelle-Chambertin will certainly provide more enjoyment in the medium-term. 93-94 point potential, 2030 forward, but nearly accessible even earlier.
Red
2020 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
96 points
Walk around tasting. In tank. Ripe black fruit, meaty spice and floral hints combine for an enrapturing nose. Dense and nearly firm start on palate, but this regains its harmony in the middle when some mint and allspice emerge. Very long brilliant. Really special wine here, 96-97 point potential, 2030 forward.

Flight 8 - Sylvain Pataille (3 notes)

Red
2020 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
88 points
Walk around tasting. Spicy and bright mostly black fruit. Beautiful young. Seems like a lot of whole cluster, which probably brightens in this vintage. Fun to enjoy young.

Red
2019 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Clémengeots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
90 points
Walk around tasting. Ripe red and black fruit here, this is so much fun now, but then there is a firmness on the finish that tells us there is even more.
Red
2019 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay Clos du Roy France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
91 points
Walk around tasting. Bigger and richer than Clémengeots with broader shoulders, but not nearly as accessible. Lots here, cellar another 5+ years.

Flight 9 - Domaine Humbert Frères (3 notes)

Red
2019 Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
89 points
Walk around tasting. Pretty black and red cherry with good weight and density, seemingly nearly 1er Cru level. Already so tasty, better to cellar another year or three.
Red
2019 Domaine Humbert Frères Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Poissenot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
92 points
Walk around tasting. Also very forward, but with clearly serious background structure. Charming already with layers starting to emerge. Lots here, this will drink well young, but even more to come, 2026 forward.
Red
2019 Domaine Humbert Frères Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
94 points
Walk around tasting. Also seemingly accessible, but the background structure isn't far off center stage. Big, bold and meaty, this is prototypical Gevrey. Best to cellar until 2020-2050, 93-94 point potential.

Flight 10 - Domaine Philippe Charlopin (3 notes)

Red
2020 Domaine Philippe Charlopin Marsannay En Montchenevoy France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
Walk around tasting. Still in barrel. Sweet core of ripe fruit with enough muscle to add weight, while not seeming rustic. This will drink ell young, from 2025 forward, 88-89 point potential.
Red
2020 Domaine Philippe Charlopin Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Walk around tasting. Still in barrel. Meaty and black with more weight and density. Also accessible already, but some mid-palate structure bodes well for longevity as well. Hold until 2026 or later, 89-90 point potential.
Red
2020 Domaine Philippe Charlopin Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Still in barrel. Not particularly accessible, but so much here. Rich black-fruited aromas show a broad array of sweet and savory notes with similar flavors. Good weight and density, the finesse of the 2020 vintage is the star here. Very good 92-93 point potential, 2030 forward.

Flight 11 - Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini (2 notes)

Red
2020 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
87 points
Walk around tasting. 50% whole cluster. Ripe and well spiced by whole cluster and oak, this is a fun and balanced young with soft tannins.
Red
2020 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jouises Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Walk around tasting. 100% whole cluster, and that is fully absorbed. Bright yet powerful and rich with all savory black cherry, berry and plum with black pepper and anise. Persistent, long finish. Very good Village wine, 90-91 point potential, from 2026.

Flight 12 - Domaine Joliet (2 notes)

Red
2018 Domaine Joliet Fixin 1er Cru Clos de la Perrière France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin 1er Cru
90 points
Walk around tasting. Great nose is ripe and well spiced. Palate is rich while firm and rustic. Very firm. Lots of substance will guarantee this evolves into something interesting, but where/ when is unclear, but certainly not before 2028.

2019 Domaine Joliet Fixin 1er Cru Clos de la Perrière France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin 1er Cru
92 points
Walk around tasting. A big step up over 2018. Big spicebox aromas with brambly black fruit. Elegant, silky tannins make this seem so much softer and less rustic vs 2018 just tasted, yet just as rich and concentrated.

Flight 13 - Dominique Gallois (2 notes)

Red
2019 Dominique Gallois Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
88 points
Walk around tasting. Black and bright, very fun already with substance. In short, very 2019.
Red
2019 Dominique Gallois Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Walk around tasting. Something seemed off balance aromatically, but I was too tired to ask.
