Introduction

Percy was able to secure a last-minute reservation at Talula's Table -- the wait time for a reservation is 1 year -- so I decided to pull out some treasures from the cellar. What a wonderful evening of great food, excellent service and fine wine!

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2005 Louis Latour Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
94 points
The fill was into the neck and the cork was sound. Impressive bouquet of ripe white fruits, vanilla and toast. An opulent texture, with a long, crisp finish.
Red
1982 Château Talbot France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
97 points
The fill was base neck; the cork was saturated to the middle, but came out easily enough. A pretty purplish-ruby core, with a hint of garnet at the edge. The bouquet was incredible and quite extroverted, offering up scents of ripe dark fruits, anise, tapenade and smoke. Medium-bodied on the palate, with an opulent texture and long, complex finish. Probably the best bottle of the '82 Talbot I have expereinced.
Red
1982 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
97 points
The fill was a healthy base neck; the cork was saturated to the top, but came out in one piece. I have consumed probably six bottles of this wine, and this example was head and shoulders above the rest. A youthful appearance, with a purple-ruby core and a hit of amber at the edge. The bouquet was nothing short of staggering, and far more exuberant and extroverted than any previous bottles that I have encountered, offering up scents of ripe dark fruits, licorice, truffle, spice and smoke. Medium-bodied on the palate, with a lush mouthfeel, generous mid-palate and a long, complex finish. It is just incredible to me how much better this bottle was than previous examples of the '82 Montrose.
Red - Fortified
1983 Graham Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
92 points
The fill was into the neck and the cork was sound. A murky purplish-red core, with a hint of amber at the edge. The bouquet offered up notes of very ripe black fruits, spice, tobacco and wet asphalt. Medium to full bodied on the palate, with good fruit, fine concentration and a long, warm finish.
