Introduction

Tasting at Lush Wine and Spirits in Roscoe Village.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White - Sparkling
1999 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
Rich with yeast and a winey palate. Less aggressive Champagne with a more subtle mousse and texture. A bit simple and nondescript, but enjoyable overall.
White - Sparkling
1998 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
Especially rich wine, with mushroom, yeast, and citrus. A full mouthfeel with a young, aggressive mousse. Rich and spicy. Very good - second only to the '96 in this flight.
White - Sparkling
1997 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
All Caribbean spice - cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice type notes. Not particularly expressive at this point, and in something of an odd place. Chalky, wrapped up finish. Enjoyable.
White - Sparkling
1996 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
July '06 disgorgement. Fine, streamlined and really well balanced Champagne. Especially aggressive mousse for CdG, but all yeast and citrus, and probably the least winey of the '96-99 series. Not that it necessarily follows, but also the best of that time period - really good.
White - Sparkling
1991 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
Smokey with some residual sulfur on the nose. Textured and winey, with mature coffee notes and a somewhat odd, sharp finish. Starting to crack up a bit - lacking balance or intensity to age; still, enjoyable.
