Introduction

With little to do a friend of mine up the road decided to treck down for an afternoon of wines during a snow storm...these were the wines we decided to pass the afternoon with.

Flight 1 - Vinoemo's blind white (1 note)

I got to get Eamonn to save these for last...it was hard to follow this with anything.

White - Off-dry
1997 Wegeler Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
93 points
In the glass this nectar was a lovely golden color. With a lovely nose that showcased slight notes of botrytis, apricots, peach, and a light hint of minerality. In the mouth the acidity was there but not obvious until served with food. Lingering flavors of apricots and peach along a lovely and long finish. This wine is still taking time to open up and might even deserve a 30 minute decant.

Flight 2 - Vinoemo's blind red (1 note)

This was tighter than a rock. It wound up being the next to last bottle that we actually drank.

Red
2003 Fattoria di Petroio Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

This wine still needs time sideways. With that much said, it is still a beautiful wine. In the glass it is a lovely ruby color with scents of anise, earth, funk, and floral notes that are very intriguing. In the mouth there is medium+ tannins that are supported by an earthy component followed by flavors of sour cherry and wild strawberries with light mouth puckering acidity.

Flight 3 - My blind white (1 note)

White
2004 Moillard Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Showing a golden yellow in the glass that reminds me of the glint off a gold ring in the sunlight. On the nose there are scents of pear, lemon, floral notes, and a light hint of vanilla. In the mouth there are flavors of pears, caramel, granny smith apples and a light hint of vanilla at the tail end of the finish. Not as complex as I had hoped...perhaps too early for this.

Flight 4 - My blind Red (1 note)

strait from the wine fridge...

Red
2005 Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Château des Jacques France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent

With scents of earth, blueberry, black fruits, with a light hint of oak and alcohol that blew off with time this wine took some time to open up. In the mouth flavors of black berry blueberry, and dried herbs resonated across a 30+ second finish. Medium + tannin and light to medium acidity leave me thinking that this will still evolve for another 2-4 years.

Flight 5 - That last bottle just because it's hard to stop drinking good wine... (1 note)

Red
2006 Bergström Pinot Noir Winery Block USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains

Showing a beautiful ruby color in the glass with scents of forest floor, bark, roses, cranberries, and wild strawberries this is what I love about Oregon Pinots...the nose. In the mouth there is a twinge of bitterness that reminds me of Arrogant Bastard Ale, leading to lush red fruits and a light heat on the finish that lends itself to it's 14.2% alcohol. While this was fun to drink now, it still needs a few years in the cellar for my palate. We initially tasted this at room temperature, when we brought this wine down to cellar temperature (55 degrees) the heat was masked and the wine became that much more enjoyable.

All in all it was a fun afternoon...with few "duds"
