Introduction

This was an annual dinner hosted by Knightsbride, and held this year at Boka downtown. The guest of honor was the delightful and engaging Jacques Lardiere (technical director at Louis Jadot), who offered some words on the Jadot philosophy and vineyards, and spent time interacting with all of the guests.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Reception wines

White
2003 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Somewhat front-heavy and caramelized ripe yellow and orange fruit. Full-bodied with a nice minerallity to the palate. Somewhat advanced versus expectations. Tense. Very nice.
White
2003 Louis Jadot Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Super tense lemon curd and wax notes. Not as ripe as expected, but with an oily, textured mouthfeel that shows the vintage character. Big wine - lots of acidity and mineral on the palate. Somewhat structure-heavy at this stage, and while very good I wonder how well the fruit will hold up.
Red
2006 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes Domaine Gagey France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Graceful and less pitchy than other '06 Jadots. Feminine styling, with dark, well-balanced fruit and medium body. Very nice.
Red
2006 Louis Jadot Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Super high pitched red fruits and anise notes. Feminine and powerful but with great purity. Heady and tense - very well structured and loaded with mineral notes. Beautiful wine.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

With Maine diver sea scallop with crispy pigs feet and English peas

White
2003 Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Caramel corn and mineral nose. Stoney, refined palate but very forward. Ripe and weighty. Mouth watering intensity. Solid wine - very '03 in style and weight, and may not have the longevity of some other vintages.
White
2006 Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Super pure, clean wine. Lemon and peach notes - very intense and structured. Super pitch and really precise. Minty, tense palate. Great wine.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

With grilled sturgeon, short rib sauce, and morel mushrooms

Red
1996 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Sous bois and heady red cherry notes. Lots of '96 acidity and still quite hard. Fuller, feminine mouthfeel. Earthy. Some tobacco and fig notes. Very nice.
Red
2004 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Buttery nose. Charred, oak-driven feel to the palate. Sweet red cherry. Strange creamy, candied feel. Fine structure, with few of the green or under ripe notes the vintage sometimes shows. Still; hard to get by some of the faults - something wrong here.
Red
2006 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Spicy, heady, feminine wine. Very red and pretty, with some pleasant candied overtones. Very hard, tense palate. Very promising, but super raw and in need of lots of time.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

With seared duck breast, cherry spaetzle, and cauliflower puree

Red
1996 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Sous bois and dark cherry fruit. Consensus was some TCA influence, but I didn't notice anything wrong. Maturing earthy notes on the palate - very classy and still well structured. Very enjoyable.
Red
2003 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Super-sweet cherry preserves, but held up by a hard, bold acidity and firm tannins. Big with great length. Very nice, but a bit one-dimensional in profile.
Red
2004 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
High-pitched red cherry fruit. Nice tension to the palate with hard structure and a firm, somewhat raw finish. Nice '04.

Flight 5 (3 notes)

With braised veal cheeks, salsify ribbon, red cabbage, and sweet potato puree

Red
1988 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Dark, maturing cherry fruit and earth. Masculine styling, with a weighty, round palate but for some raw unresolved tannins on the finish. Very nice, but still needs time.
Red
1990 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Forward sous bois and very pretty red fruits. All red licorice and spice on the well rounded palate. Still needs time and structured firmly with hard but fine tannins. Some minty notes. Very, very good wine.
Red
1993 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
More restrained red fruits. Well-balanced palate - medium bodied in a characteristic '93 way. Graceful, pretty wine, but still a bit hard on the finish. Very good.

Closing

We finished with an olive oil and tarragon cake with candied fennel, grapefruit segment, and olive oil ice cream paired with a very good '00 Taittinger Brut.

Great event all around!
