Introduction
Mike Parres pours some nice Brunellos...
Flight 1 - A ROSSO TO START OUT WITH (1 note)
Red
2007 Sesta di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino
90 points
Nice, ripe, spicy fruit. A hint of vanilla thrown in. Hints of wet earth. Very good for the $23 price. Solid Rosso.
Flight 2 - THE 2003s (5 notes)
Red
2003 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino
89 points
Dark fruit, nice spicy finish. A bit thin in the middle. A bit of chocolate; a bit of heat.
Red
2003 Claudia Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
Smokey, chocolatey. Rich wine with truffle hints. Just a bit of brett... just enough to add complexity.
Red
2003 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso
92 points
Lovely cherry fruit. Elegant, balanced and long.
Red
2003 Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino
93 points
Wild nose... Tabacco leaf, sous bois. Refined palate. Fine grained structure. Nice.
Red
2003 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino
93 points
Sappy cherry and floral notes. Beautiful perfume, and really dances on the palate. Silky texture in the mouth.
Flight 3 - THE 2004s (4 notes)
Red
2004 Claudia Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino
91 points
Firm and linear. Good acids; high toned... but I would like greater length in the finish.
Red
2004 Tenuta le Potazzine Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
Light, elegant and a firm backbone. Strong "bones" but not so much "flesh". Good.
Red
2004 Pinino Brunello di Montalcino Clan Destino
92 points
Good flesh here. Round, yet well defined. Lovely "grippy" finish.
Red
2004 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino
94 points
I'm a sucker for the "skunky", "funky", earthy aromas of this wine. Lots of wet earth, forest floor and truffles. Complex and unique.
Flight 4 (0 notes)
A 2001 Tenuta Caparzo "La Casa" was also tasted, but mysteriously I have not notes on it.
Flight 5 - A LAMBRUSCO TO END UP WITH (1 note)
Red - Sparkling
N.V. Ca' Berti Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro Tipico
87 points
Floral and dry... essence of pressed dried flowers, with dusty cherry fruit. Considering this is $10, I consider this a nice buy. Refreshing on a hot day!
