Introduction

A group of us met up at the always fantastic BOKA restaurant for a night of great food and to explore the wines of Domaine Roumier. All wines were served single blind within their flights.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Some bubbles to start.

White - Sparkling
1996 Henri Giraud Champagne Fût de Chêne France, Champagne
A waxy lemon nose and brioche nose with a good bit of oxidation. Palate was decent, but not exciting. Not many bubbles.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
1996 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
A much more darker color than the '98. The nose had a honeyed lemon character on both the nose and palate. The acid on the palate was slightly more tart that I would have liked to have seen it.
White
1998 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
A citrus peel nose (mostly lime) with a bit of smoke and some wood spice. Ripe fruit on the palate with a mineral backbone and very good length. Some spice on the backend as well. Showing very well.

Flight 3 (4 notes)

Red
1985 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Beautiful dried red cherry and raspberry on the nose with some savory herbs and a touch of cinnamon. The same fruit on the palate with excellent spice throughout. Great length with a seamless finish. Absolutely beautiful.
Red
2000 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Pretty, ripe red cherry and berry on both the nose and palate. Moderate spice throughout with a somewhat hollow midpalate in my opinion. Medium bodied with some very nice mineral notes.
Red
2001 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Briary red fruit with baking spice on the nose. Good spice on the palate, but overall something was just not right here. Medium bodied with a shorter finish.
Red
2001 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Dark red berry and cherry on the nose with lots of sweet baking spice (some clove and cinnamon). A mineral note as well. A fruit forward palate with excellent spice throughout. Fantastic length with a great balance of acidity and minerality. Keeps getting better and better over the hour or so I had some left in the glass.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
1988 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
A "older nose" of dried cherry and cranberry with some dirt/soil as well. A leaner palate, but still has some pretty fruit and is soft on the palate. Drinking very well with great spice. Delicious.
Red
1993 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Powerful, intoxicating dark cherry and raspberry nose with some great savory spice notes. A good bit of gripping tannin remaining. A dense wine with great structure. Very, very nice.
Red
1995 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
A ripe cherry cola nose with fantastic savory spice and some wet earth notes. Ripe cherry and berry as well on the palate with beautiful spice and great structure. Great length.

Flight 5 (4 notes)

Red
1998 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Spicy red fruits with smoke and lots of savory spice. Soft fruit on the palate with a great balance of acidity and minerality. Outstanding length with slightly gripping tannins on the finish. Fantastic!
Red
1999 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
A very powerful wine. A somewhat leaner, darker fruit nose and palate that, in my opinion, was slightly shut down. The class is obvious and there is quite a bit of tannin. Some gorgeous savory spice started to emerge with time in the glass. This is going to be really special someday and I wish I had some in the cellar.
Red
2000 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Delicate red berry nose with cinnamon and clove. Soft fruits on the palate with mineral and subtle spice throughout. Drinking very well tonight.
Red
2001 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Fragrant, cherry cola nose with some delicate floral in the background. A lush, fruit forward palate with just a touch of tartness. Has nice grip on the finish and nice spice throughout. A very pretty wine.

Flight 6 (3 notes)

Red
1988 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Ripe, forward nose of dark berries and gorgeous dark spice. Soft, yet powerful fruit on the palate and showing great balance. Great acidity. Absolutely lovely.
Red
1990 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Dusty, dark berries on the nose with plenty of spice. Sweet fruit on the palate with good acid structure and a mineral backbone. Lengthy finish.
Red
1995 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Wild cherry and savory herbs and spice on the nose with some smoke as well. Absolutely intoxicating. A fruit forward palate with great minerality and acidity with gripping tannin on the finish. Great length. Fantastic.

Flight 7 (1 note)

A bonus bottle to round out the evening.

Red
2005 Hospices de Beaune Corton-Cuvée Charlotte Dumay Roumier France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Ripe, dark berry nose with a healthy dose of sweet baking spice. Powerful savory herbs as well in the aromatics. Ripe cherry and berry on the palate with powerful spice throughout. Fantastic balance of minerality and acidity. Very, very nice. Showing surprisingly well for a Corton this young.

Closing

A fantastic evening that I was very exciting to be a part of. Thanks!
