Introduction

@ Barboursville Octagon release party. Another strong showing in the 2006 vintage.

Tasted a vertical of 99, 04, 05 & 06 Octagon with lunch pairings. All of the wines were wonderful and perfectly paired with the dishes.

Classic old world style Bordeaux blend. Deep garnet color. Plum, vanilla & nutmeg nose. Plum, strawberry, spice. Silky tannins balanced w/acidity. Long finish. Age worthy for at least 12 – 15 years. Paired perfectly with Insalata of Duck Confit, Frisée, Dried Cranberries, Toasted Walnuts & Red Wine Vinaigrette topped with Poached Quail Egg.

Classic old world style Bordeaux blend. Deep garnet color. Plum, raspberry & hint of coffee on the nose. Plum, raspberry, spice & hint of coffee. Silky tannins, firmer than the 2006. Long finish. Age worthy for at least 12 – 15 years. Paired with Braised Beef Brisket “Plin” ravioli in Rich Broth with a Splash of Red Wine and Freshly Sliced Black Truffles.

Still youthful; age worthy for at least another 8 – 10 years. Paired with Braised Lamb Shank with Porcini Polenta, Sautéed Local Greens & Lamb-Coriander Jus.

Classic old world style Bordeaux blend. Dark red / purple color. Subdued flowers on the nose. Plum with a hint of tartness & licorice. Rich mouth feel. Silky mellow tannins. Excellent long finish. Still vivid and fresh at 10 years age – age worthy for while yet. Paired with a wonderful plate of local cheeses and honeys.
