Introduction

A group of 5 of us got together a Trotter's for a pre holiday dinner with some great wines and the let the kitchen create a menu to match with our wines.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
1996 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
Big yeasty nose of tart green apple and lemon custard. Lots of wet stones as well. Right now the palate is very mineral driven with super focused acidity. Very long finish and has all the components to make this one of the greats down the road. Delicious.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
1986 Remoissenet Père et Fils Montrachet Le Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Light color and surprisingly fresh on both the nose and palate. Hazelnut and lemon on the nose. Fairly rich palate with great mineral structure and acidity. Lengthy finish. Lovely.
White
2001 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Very mineral driven nose with steely lemon and a slight minty note in the beginning. Some very pretty white flower notes as well. Great richness on the palate. Very nice length and subtle spice throughout the finish. Delicious.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1974 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Tâche Grand Cru
Brownish red color. Aromas of red berries, damp leaves/ earth, and iodine. Soy notes and dry baking spice as well. Medium bodied palate with mostly dried fruits. Lovely clove notes throughout the moderate finish. Pretty wine.
Red
1978 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Tâche Grand Cru
Seductive, fruit forward nose of wild strawberries with beautful floral notes as well as sweet baking spices. Medium bodied with pretty red fruits, great texture and incredible length. Gorgeous spice all throughout the palate and finish. A real treat.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
1978 Remoissenet Père et Fils Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Dark red berries on the nose with powerful spice, and subtle minerality. Masculine, fruit forward palate with a lot of grip on the finish. Very well structured. Sweet baking spice all throughout. The most youthful of the 3 or so I've had of these over the past year.
Red
1998 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
A huge candied red raspberry nose with sappy blue fruits as well. Lots of oak presence here. The palate had nice texture, however the finish was slightly coarse. Quite a bit of grip on the finish.

There was a bit of a dispute as to whether or not something was wrong with this bottle. The person who brought this bottle had it numerous times of the past two years and felt that this bottle was off. Personally, had nothing been said, the thought this was off would have never crossed my mind. My only problem with it was that is was totally out of place with the other two wines in this flight. If I was having it by myself and without the other two Richebourgs, I would have no problem at all drinking it.
Red
1998 Domaine Leroy Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Ripe red cherry and pretty floral aromatics. Fruit forward palate of red fruits with delicate clove/nutmeg notes throughout that kept getting more and more pronounced as the wine opened up. Feminine style. Medium bodied with outstanding length and great energy. Fantastic wine.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
1993 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Dark berry, earth and mineral driven nose. The palate was not very giving and I found it still pretty tannic. Big mineral backbone, great acid, and beautiful spice on the nose and throughout the palate. Needs more time.
Red
1996 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Powerful, sappy nose of spicy dark red berries, damp earth, and wood. Fruit forward palate with great texture and seductive brown spice. Lots of length and great body. Refreshing acidity. Absolutely delicious.

Flight 6 (3 notes)

Red
1995 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Dark ripe raspberry and lots of sweet baking spice (clove, nutmeg) on both the nose and palate. Very nice texture, great structure and fantastic acidity. A beautiful wine and drinking great now, though it has everything it needs to be forgotten in the cellar for a number of more years.
Red
1996 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Very sexy, sappy dark berry aromatics with powerful brown baking spice. Lots of spicy, rich fruit on the palate. Fantastic texture and a very long finish. Nice acidity. Outstanding.
Red
1996 Sylvain Cathiard Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
A bit slow getting going, but after a half hour or so it really turned into something special. Sappy red berries, powerful baking spices and a great mineral backbone. Lots of length with very nice acidity on the finish. A worthy competitor to the DRCs it was served alongside.

Closing

A fantastic night of food and wine. Thanks to Cory, Debbie, Kevin, and Alan.
