Introduction

Traci's friend Noel was in from Nashville for the weekend and we kicked it off with a terrific dinner focusing on a homemade pizza with fontina and mozarella cheeses and wild mushrooms. We then moved on to a terrific crab pasta. All three wines showed well albeit very differently. A fun evening.

2007 Domaine de Mouscaillo Pinot Noir Limoux France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Limoux

Bought this for just under $20. Popped and poured, producer unfamiliar to me.

This wine is a beatiful little wine. Slightly bigger than a Chablis, with nice limestone/chalk/minerality, pear, spice and clean fruit. Sort of middle weight wine with a short/medium finish this will appeal to a lot of people. Really enjoyable. 87-88/100
White
2007 August West Chardonnay Rosella's Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands

Compared to the Muscaillo this wine is a little bigger and riper and seeming sweeter (resulting from riper fruit not residual sugar). More tropical fruit, hazelnut, orange rind and a little spice. It's fuller and broader across the palate and more substantial in the finish. Went well with the crab pasta. 90/100

Disclaimer: Ed Kurtzman, the winemaker, is a good friend.
White
2006 Lynmar Estate Chardonnay USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Cracked at the end of dinner but still in time to taste a little with the crab pasta. A little brighter than the August West with more laser focus of meyer lemon, pear, spice and a little smoke. Drinking very well right, it also shows a little less dense on the palate than the AW Chardonnay. Very nice effort. 90/100
