It opened up nicely as the hours passed. A very nice bottle. I'll try to pay better attention next time I drink it for better tasting notes, but you won't be disappointed, especially for the price!

No decanting...a bit of heat in the finish, but overall it has integrated very nicely. Fantastic wine.

Very good wine at this point with a great balance. The wine shows notes of black cherry, a hint of soda and forest floor, and a good dose of spice such as nutmeg. Good mouthfeel, but as others have mentioned, the finish is short on this. The nose makes up for some of the finish's shortcomings.

A bit rough to start...needs time to open up, but nice wine after opening up. We had it open for about 2 hours before it started showing well.

CB: Blackberry nose, black pepper, a bit of plum? Nose seemed rich, yet first taste of pallet seemed very watered down straight out of the bottle. Let's see what happens. Improved a bit, but wondering how much longer this wine will last. Just seems a bit thin on the palate but paired nicely with a garlic/red wine meat/pasta dinner we had tonight. Solid okay wine but nothing to write home about.

CB: Fabulously round nose, not overbearing or overly strong and deep as I would expect from a Gary's but I guess '05 was more subtle like that. Nose of straberries and cherries. Great palate, not overly tannic or fruit forward, black cherries. Will only get better but doing pretty well right now!

Decent cheap bottle of Vernaccia. Yellow in color. Nose showed nice floral bouquet along with vanilla. Palate confirmed the nose. Could use some more acidity IMO, although there's definitely acid in there. Short finish.

CB: Had at Barolo restaurant in Denver, CO. A little too tannic and bold for my taste. I prefer softer Barbarescos with more complex fruit flavors. This wine didn't show much complexity and the entire table wasn't overly fond of it.

Bought based on local shop's owner's recommendation. Our first experience with a Cali Pinot more than 4-5 years old. This is an absolutely fabulous wine and one of my favorite Cali Pinots to date. Basically popped and poured. Medium purple in color with bricking near the edges. Huge earthy nose for the first hour, with cranberry, red cherry, sweet baking spices, and some green tea eventually coming through on the nose. The earthiness dissipated almost entirely after the first hour. Palate showed sweet spices, cherries, and forest floor throughout. Nice complexity, still has some nice acidity, a bit of a tannic kick, and a wonderful, medium-length finish. This is probably near its peak, but may still improve with another year or two. It's definitely nowhere near decline.

Fantastic N.V. Champer! Bought based on local wine shop owner's recommendation. This is a big, creamy champagne style, not higly acidic and bright. Huge notes of creamy goodness, lemon, brioche, and a hint of nuttiness. Palate showed lots of cream, lemon and dough. Decent acidity and a fantastic medium-length finish that made me think I was eating brioche. Drank from a "standard" champer glass as well as Riedel Vinum Extreme champer class and was noticably more expressive and better tasting from the Riedel. Our first experience with different glasses.

Dark purple in color. Opened and let sit for a half hour or so before tasting. Had with roasted pepper and tomato soup as well as marinated chicken. Nice notes of black cherry and spices, but the oak seemed overly dominant on this occasion. Our non wine-o friends loved it, as I expected, but it seemed out of balance to me. It wasn't a big, jammy wine which was nice, but also wasn't drinking as well as it could have.

Light yellow in color. This showed more buttery notes than I really care for in Chard. Medium to full-bodied with notes of apple and a hint of pear. Decent, but for the most part unmemorable wine.

I was about to give up on this producer after 2 of the 04 Kanzlers, but this bottle may have changed my mind. Cranberry in color as I poured into a decanter and waited for about a half hour with half glasses poured for both my wife and I. This seemed relatively simple at first showing bright, red cherry and forest floor on the nose and palate with a pine needle flavored, medium finish. As time went on, pine needles became more prevalent along with the fruit, but some interesting baking spices and a slight soy sauce note became apparent. This is a relatively high-acid wine for a Cali Pinot, but the acid is not distracting. I was going to pass on this mailer this time around, but may have to give these guys another shot as this appears to be a very well-made Cali pinot stylistically between the huge fruit and alcohol and a more acidic, food-friendly style. (as mentioned in previous notes)

This wine seems to have picked up some weight since our previous botttle. While still fairly light, it's drinking better and will be better yet with additional time. Nice notes of raspberry, cherry, licorice and pepper on the nose. The palate showed a little light still, with notes of brambleberries, spices and a tad hot. There's a very nice finish here, but we'll be waiting for at least another year before popping our last bottle.

This is still a huge wine even after six years. Dark purple in color showing little bricking. Big nose of blackberry cream and spices. Palate was very silky showing more blackberry. There's still a good amount of tannic kick in this wine, so I'd hold off another couple of years--it's got the acidity as well. It does however have all the stuffing to be a very nice wine when it reaches its peak.

This was showing a lot of oak tonight. Notes of spice and currant and overwhelming oak. The acidity seemed high, tannins a bit low, fruit low, and oak too high. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling this bottle either.

Had as part of a vertical tasting of too much stinking wine so not much in the way of notes. This was drank next to a 97 Tenuta Friggiali BDM and 97 Avignonesi Vino Nobile de Montepulciani. This was clearly the best wine of the 3, but overly tannic and in need of time at this point. There's some fantastic, pure fruit in there, but just not in its optimal drinking window at this point. My #2 and the group's clear #1.

Had as part of a vertical tasting of too much stinking wine so not much in the way of notes. This was drank next to the 01, 02, and 04 versions of the same wine. This wine was heads and tails better than the rest, although part of that may be due to age. This wine was extremely expressive compared to the others showing beautiful notes of flowers, minerality, and fruit. There's also a hint of petrol, but not as defined as in some of the others. My and the group's clear #1 at this point in time.

Had as part of a vertical tasting of too much stinking wine so not much in the way of notes. This was far too tight compared to the others. This is going to be great, but even with being open all day, it was tight showing little but petrol and minimal fruit flavors. Let em sleep. Score based largely on potential, which I'm sure will reach much higher than the score I gave.

Popped for a friend who'd never had a Kosta Browne. This wine needs some serious time as it was very tight and angular in the first hour or so it was open. It opened beautifully however after about an hour and a half showing a nice, rich dark cherry and baking spices. There's a hint of heat, but overall a pleasant experience if you give it time in the decanter or cellar.
