Needs time to open up + food to go with it. Tannic and mineral at first, concentrated eventually settles in to a chalky, mineral, licorice bouquet with a long finish. Going to hold on to the other bottles a bit longer.

Great nose. Should get more intense with age. Versatile and well balanced, can accompany a lot of things. From start to finish a very pleasant surprise.

Held onto it too long. Muted aromas. No real finish. Quite drinkable but nothing stands out.

Finished a bottle over two days, half then the other half. Character changed but was just as good all things considered. A zin through and through, less spice on day two with more sweetness. Very enjoyable and drinkable now, but will see how other bottles keep. Agree with most comments til now.

Had a great bouquet when we tasted it at the winery last year. It was enjoyable this time around, but did not meet our expectations.

Dark Cab with a fruity nose. Cherry palate, meaty, simple with oak in check would go well with a variety of meals. Nice effort, not your everyday red with a decent finish.

Nice color. Ripe fruit on the nose carries through on the palate with a little earthiness. Not a heavy or complex Zin. Gradually as it opens up lots of pepper, particularly on the finish and some alcohol. The light, sweet quality evaporates. This bottle was much better than the one we had over six months ago, but the balance is still a bit off. May give it another try in another six months.

Good QPR. Opens up nicely so give it a little time. Plum, leather, spice with a dry round finish.

Decant to eliminate the big, upfront early burn and let this wine settle in. Agree with other comments, seems to have peaked and it's now on the mature side. Third bottle we've had and the first was the best, more worthy of the WS93. Prune on the nose with hints of ash and spice. Sweet and fruity then white pepper all on the palate, tanins make your mouth pucker. Dry, round, full finish with mild white pepper burn. Nice, but left yearning for the earlier bottles.

Very clear color-bright egg white. Honeydew, mowed wet grass and flowers on the nose. Well integrated wine and balanced, a hint of acidity. Give it some time to breathe and don't serve it too cold so that it can shine a bit more. A treat under the right conditions, but not a standout SB.

Decanted, waited, the alcohol was still prominent. Kept some in the bottle and tried the next day - it hadn't improved. Nice color. Cherry nose. A bit of coffe on the palate. Long finish with a bit of spice. Any subtleties are lost because of the alcohol. Not quite what I was expecting from a Moshin Zin.

Nice pretty color, looks light and refreshing. Citrus upfront and it carries through. The wine's appeal comes through when paired with food. Not as much of solo deal like Kim Crawford.

Perfectly fine, but nothing memorable. Muted nose. Fruit on the palate a little spice in the end. A few other things going on, graphite. Decanted for an hour. Perhaps it would have been better if we held onto it.

Fruity, easy to drink, doesn't taste like a Pinot but that's not necessarily a bad thing, drink it in the afternoon. Doesn't necessarily need food not complicated. Nice.

Nice nose of cedar, leather, tobacco with a hint of sweetness. Fruit comes across on first blush on the palate but the wood flavoring dominates with a dry and tannic finish. Oddly enjoyable wine in a nostalgic way... Old world.

Floral nose. Short on the backend. Strong mid-palate. Berry and currant, slight filmy residue on finish needs time to mature.

Drinkable now, but still young. Could use more cellaring. Inky, sticks to the glass. Opens up nicely. Hints of vanilla. Mocha leather. Huge wine. Slightly tannic. Beautifully balanced, finish cuts short needs to develop.

Opens up quite fast. Blackberry, light toast on the nose with something funky but it doesn't impact the taste. Jam and toast on the palate. Very drinkable. Light but not wimpy. Nice finish.

Opens up with some anise or licorice, then floral lots of hibiscus, finishes up harsh, with a peppery finish. Smells sweeter than it tastes. Kind of a disappointment. Color is nice. Don't see what the hoopla is about.

Expected more from Chateau Montelena. Nose was pretty good. Palate was average. Not a lot going on for a Zin . Better choices out there for the price.

It's possible the seller of this wine did not store it properly. Expected a lot more based on reviews out there. Got fruit upfront and white pepper in the finish. The balance and structure were just not there. It didn't seem to improve with time. Tasted like a $10-12 dollar bottle.

Nose: sweet, a lot of fruit, cherry, cassis. On the palate: round. Upfront, doesn't linger. Nice wine, light, well balanced. Too simple for the price.
