This was a lovely young wine, with luxurious layers of black cherry and blackberry, graphite, hints of violets and good underlying acidity to frame the lush fruit. The tannins were smooth and flowing, adding to the wine's overall richness. Great for near- and mid-term drinking.

This was a lovely wine with layers of mulled cherry cider, beet root, blueberry, earth and truffles. A great streak of acidity ran through it like a spine, giving it wonderful poise and posture.

No real tasting notes for this one, but I enjoyed it. Maybe not quite as much as previous bottles. Perhaps it's hit its high point?

I completely disagree with the other recent tasters. I loved this wine. Give me those tannins! I want a well-structured Merlot that's more than just velvety fruit. This was it (plus it had great fruit!). It was a Wednesday night, so I should have stopped at two glasses, but that third glass was calling, and who was I to say no.

I should have waited to drink this. It's pretty monolithic and primary right now. Even so, you can see the upside in its future. There's an amazing amount going on, it just needs some time to find its way.

Once it saw a bit of air, this was a surprisingly polished wine given its mountain roots. Very pure and layered with lots of mid-palate stuffing and nice blackberry, cassis and cocoa notes. A very subtle hint of earth and well integrated French oak.

Another great wine shared by Doug. Probably should have decanted for much longer, but nonetheless each sip offered something new. Began with noticable zingy acidity and tannins, but quickly settled down. Lots of deep plum and mineral notes, with hints of coffee and cocoa nibs. Very focused and sophisticated.

This wine is in a very good place with great emerging secondary flavors of earth, leather and spice supporting deep Pinot fruit.

This one is still a baby, but it's a big baby! Lots of voluptuous black cherry and ripe strawberry flavors, along with some earth and truffle elements. Very dark in color, and considering its a 2011, surprisingly modest acid--very rich and round. A big-style Pinot, but a very good one.

Of the four 2007s poured this was the definite star. Lots of deep fruit, but also more sophisticated graphite, olive, mineral and cocoa nib notes. A nice hint of savoriness, lots of structure and a touch of dustiness.

A very well-structured Merlot with a lovely balance of fruit (blackberry, cassis, hints of wild strawberry), good supporting oak (hints of vanilla and cocoa) and a streak of fresh acid still noticable. Very smooth, but also quite complex.

Lush and rich without being too heavy or dramatically overoaked. Pineapple, mango and citrus notes. Very Napa.

Fourth bottle at the dinner party. Lots of deep Dry Creek fruit, nice hints of spice and cedar. Good structure.

This wine is a wake-up call. Lithe, bright, with no new oak and low in alcohol it is unlike any other Zin out there. It won't wine the swimsuit competition, but have it with food and it sings.

This wine really evolved over time, starting with a little funk, pepper and leather and slowly showing more depth and intrigue. It still has some fruit, but the secondary flavors are more apparent, with mineral and savory notes. Drink now.

Great Todd Brothers Vineyard note of scorched red earth to this wine that supports granular tannins and deep red fruit notes. Very alluring, while still being a bit rustic--but in a very nice way! Drank at Super Bowl. Everyone loved it!

This wine is in a really good place. The fruit has settled down so that it is a dark, rich undercurrent to earth and smoke notes. A hint of smoked meats a respectable acid framework give this wine a lot of dimension. Very smooth, very deep.

Oh, Gold Mine, now that you are gone from my cellar, I'll miss you. You were one big, tasty Zin. And you lessened the pain of watching the Niners lose.

After an initial screechy, nail polish remover note to this wine, it settled down into a really interesting cool climate syrah, with lots of graphite/mineral/wet rock notes under cool, unsweet fruit.

The more I drink Dashe's Les Enfants Terribles wines, the more I feel like I am getting let in on a great secret. You almost have to recalibrate your palate for these wines (a bit like Cobb Pinots), they are so unexpected and out of the ordinary. This wine is so fresh and bright and delicate that it almost seems thin at first blush, but once you sit with it for awhile (and especially breathe in the aromas) a lot more nuance and complexity is revealed. If most Cali Grenaches are Yang, this is much more Yin. Not for aging. Drink young with food.

This is an exceptional white--beautiful weight and texture from the semillon, lovely lift and acidity from the SB and awesome Muscadelle aromas. Had with a variety of cheeses and it went great with several.

Good and solid wine of its type, if a little unexceptional. Drank it during a dinner party, so no extensive notes. Probably wouldn't hold this much longer, primary fruit is receding, nice secondary notes of earth and herbs. I did like the impact of the other BDX varieties.

This was a very deep and focused Syrah. Powerful blue fruit, leather and earth layers wrapped in well-integrated oak notes. In a good place right now. Very Carlisle-like.

Deep and earthy, with lots of dark plum and bramble flavors. Good cracked pepper notes and a hint of coffee, though no other major oak hit. The acid isn't dramatic, it just offers a hint of framework (maybe could use a touch more).

This was in a very interesting place with a lot of flint and smoke notes underlying deep, red fruit layers. In our blind tasting, several people thought this was the 1998 Beaucastel.

I really wanted to like this wine more. All the parts were there, but it just didn't come together for me. Little bits and pieces stuck out in unharmonious ways--a little pruney, a little hot. This said, under the rough edges, there was good lush fruit, nice weight, and good Zin character. Good, just not great.

This did nothing for me. The main perception was the dryness of the tannins and the overall herbalness of the wine. It was so boring, I went to bed early.

This was a very good wine, especially for the $25. I really enjoyed the Cab franc notes of graphite, earth and licorice that supported the raspberry, blackberry fruit. It was in a nice place age-wise, and did not require significant decanting.

I didn't like this as much as the other recent tasters. It was pleasant enough with decent depth, but it didn't engage me in any interesting ways. Just a nice solid wine with good fruit and enough stuffing to make it enjoyable--but not particularly memorable.

From the sweet and spicy nose that married black pepper and sweet tart notes to the powerful tannins and black fruit layers, there was loads going on in this wine. It followed a 1998 St. Hallett Old Block Shiraz in our tasting, and pretty much turned the dial up to 11 (but not ungracefully). Though this was a remarkably rich, powerful wine it carried itself with an Ali-like precision and grace that belied it's size and power. The wine was still very youthful, with big tannins, but there was so much concentration in the blackberry and black raspberry fruit that it all melded together. Hints of coffee and coconut added nuance throughout.

A lovely nose of clove, cinnamon and candied ginger. For a 14-year-old Shiraz, this wine as still amazingly bright and youthful, with a streak of fresh acidity underscoring deep plum layers and flavors of black cherry, leather and cracked pepper. This wine is showing phenomenally, and likely still has several years of life.

A beautiful inky black wine, with loads of cassis, plum, black cherry and black raspberry flavors. Even after just a brief decant, this wine was surprising smooth and rich, with very little of the dry mountain tannins that you can get in a young Pritchard Hill wine. Very well integrated, with subtle oak-inpired notes of mocha and spice. Deep and pleasurable.

Powerful and compelling in the finest sense of old vine Dry Creek Valley Zin, but with a bracing spine of acidity that lifts everything, giving the fruit purity over jamminess.

I just heard that this winery was very recently sold, which explains the deep PA discount. Even given the $27 price, I had higher hopes for this wine. Muted dark berry fruit and a little earth, graphite and chapparel notes the first day, but very simple. Nothing bad, but nothing exciting either. I tried the last glass the second day, and I might have scored it a point higher, but I might have just been in a better mood.
