2008 Vérité La Muse Sonoma County Red Bordeaux Blend

The 2008 La Muse is every bit an outstanding wine at 11 years of age. Great aromas, morning fresh barnyard and hints of a farm just plowed over in a mountain valley. There is a complicated cornucopia of tastes in the mouth, all blended together and difficult to describe... but oh so delicious: dark berries are dominant, some mocha, coffee, slight hints of a smooth cigar... silky smooth tannins, and just barely sweet enough to show, and lingered for minutes; from here I am lost. The pairing was a beef tenderloin; it was a great evening with great friends.

Outstanding; paired with ribeye steaks. Great aromas / tastes of blackberries / dark fruits, coffee and chocolate, well integrated tannins and a long silky finish. Given time, this 2008 is capable of higher ratings.

12/25/19, 6:35 PM - Few and Far Between and Kayli Morgan are great wines. I continue to have both; but for its complexity of flavors and aroma, and if I were to have one choice, it would be F&F. Good luck, and, Merry Christmas.

Who wouldn’t appreciate this wine! Wonderful aromas of dark berries and fresh forest floor after a cool spring rain; lite sents and tastes of dark berries, chocolate / coffee and slight caramel with smooth, soft tannins. Long tastes. Drinking very well now and likely better with aging.

4/7/19, 11:21 AM - By all means, the 2012 Schader RBS To-Kalon Cabernet is outstanding now, so enjoy with no doubts! My instincts tell me it will continue to evolve and age beautifully over many more years if one wants to experience the adventure.

Double decanted for thirty minutes, but the wine really opened after thirty minutes in the glass. After an hour the tannins were beautiful and round. This is not a heavily oaked cab. This is like a lady's NFL line backer in a ballet. Smooth, elegant but with some muscle yet finesse. The wine will benefit as a pop and pour with age, but it's drinking beautifully now.

4/21/14, 5:29 PM - I read your '07 Altamura comment after posting mine tonight. I cracked up when I read your "ladies NFL line backer in a ballet" comment, and laughed out loud when I read it, with a picture developing in my mind of Dick Butkus in a Tutu... that's when I really lost it. I'd defy anyone to express the character and personality of Altamura wine any better! Well done. Bob

Opened over a week ago, garnet in color, aroma muted; poured a glass and gassed the rest for later. The first tasting was astringent with tannins galore and toughed that glass out, disappointed. Tonight, over a week later, I was simply trying it again with no lofty expectations. What a turnaround; fresh floral scent - a little forest floor, tannins softened, LONG legs and a taste of semi-sweet dark fruit, much more balanced and should be perfect with a nice ribeye (a Costco turkey burger was tonight's menu as I was tonight's cook). I suspect this wine should have a two hour decant for now... and likely will be really ready to drink in 2 -3 more years. This was both a pleasant surprise and a delightful wine.

8/12/13, 8:35 AM - Hi Barry, Regarding my August 7th ('13) comments on the '07 Faust Cabernet. I opened a 375ml bottle, gassed it immediately after 1st pour (basically - muted / awful to my particular astringent sensitivity). Then I finished that same bottle over a week later, which only then I found it to be incredibly good after another half hour in the glass when it was still opening slowly like a blooming flower, and why it earned the 91 rating. My guess is that the immediate gassing and week spent in the cellar might have been the equivalent of a 2 hour decant. My estimate is this '07 Faust will reach the first stages of it's optimum drinking window in 2 - 3 more years, which I will give in anticipation that it will be even more profound. Regards, Bob

I opened this bottle knowing it was a mere baby, and my assumption was correct. I'll be waiting another 2-3 years as this wine has the markings to be excellent+++, and I want to fully enjoy the results.

12/24/12, 6:20 AM - Youthful wine, not flawed...on Dec. 11, I posted a comment on this wine being youthful with no rating... I was unaware that "Flawed" was checked. As implied, this wine will be great. Thank you, Fromunda, for bringing this to my attention; it is now corrected.
