Blackcurrant, blue and red fruits, tobacco leaf, tangy acidity and talc tannin. Another excellent Musician vintage. 90 or better.

Oooh I like this. Plum, blueberry, blood, and a ferrous quality. Medium bodied, wide spread of talc to dusty tannin, ample length. 91 or 92.

A delight to drink. Florals, rose water, cherry, raspberry, exotic spice. Barely there talc fine tannin. Excellent balance. Enough length. Better with 3 hours of air than when cracked open, no surprise there, very young.

Blackcurrant, black and blue berries, that sweet fruit to the front is slightly dilute, then buttery green bean or something like that. Decent length. Medium bodied at most, fine tannin only starting to emerge after 4 hours open, has a bitter edge. Enjoyable drink but I really struggled to score this as a wine, never mind as a cabernet malbec. Anywhere between 85 and 90.

Purity, balance, body, length. Lemon drops, touch of lanolin. Soft acidity. Possibly under scoring this… Drinking out of a cheap champagne flute as that’s all that is available at the holiday cabin where I’m staying. Quality shines through.

Label says grapefruit and hazelnut, I’d add pineapple. Milky texture. Length probably argues for slightly higher points but I don’t get on with the grapefruit acidity.
Day 4: went back for second half of bottle, and enjoyed it more. Go figure! Acid less prominent. Havent changed the original score or note.

Plum, blueberry, blackberry, eucalyptus, peppery oak, olive and a black savouriness. Ample length, balance, with shapely dusty tannin. Didn’t quite sing as a whole. 89 or 90.
Night 2 final glass from bottle. Drinking not thinking, increased unity, richness and drive 90+

I’ll pay the label for aroma and flavour descriptors, so pear, touch of ginger, and tropical fruits. Not so the other descriptors, I think it’s delicate rather than rich and luscious. Not a lot of drive or vitality. 87 or 88.

Fleshy red and black fruits, brown spices, lick of cola. Grip. Possibly the best yet, touch and go for 90. Once again astonishing value and well in front as the best value wine available in Australia, putting many $20+ drops to shame for quality.

Tightly wound. Impressive balance, structure and length. Medium full bodied. Dark fruits, mint, and a touch of vanilla, with much more to come. Come back in a decade! That was at 3 hours open, a couple of hours later on final glass still getting better, tempted to go 94.

In a word, moreish. And after many years of drinking this red stripe Wynns blend, I’ve finally realised that’s the single attribute that I value most highly in this wine, when it appears (almost always). Black and red fruits, some olive savouriness, touch of jubiness. Gentle spice and gentle powder tannin. Excellent balance and enough length. Also excellent from first pop and pour, I feel it’s the best example of this Wynns blend for many vintages.

Strawberry compote, cherry, autumn leaves, sweet spice. Gentle and maturing with some life ahead still. Fully excellent balance, fine mesh tannin, adequate length. Really enjoyed this, and a nice surprise, as it came in a cheap mystery dozen, I didn’t research it, and I had low expectations.

Night one: almost raspberry cordial to start, sweet, then molasses and savouriness and spice. Disjointed. A bit hot. I was around 87 on it. Night two: second half of bottle has settled down considerably. Some confectionary but more about the molasses and savouriness and spice. Better balanced, pleasing grip, and enough length. 89

Mostly black fruited, some blue. Touch of musk as per the label. Brown spices, stalkiness. Fine threads of tannin. Ample length. So young, definitely drinking better on final glass 6 hours after opening bottle… earlier the stalkiness was higher in the mix and almost showed as green and under ripe.

When only the let loose leering stomp of Barossa shiraz hedonism will do for you tonight, this is a great pick. Blue and red fruits, vanilla, touch of mint and spice. Fine powder to kitten tongue tannin. Adequate length. Such a joy, if you’re in the mood, and I am.

Struck match. Grapefruit, lemon, and a macadamia creaminess. Enough length. Gorgeous but not quite the drive and focus of the best vintages, for me. Best drunk at cellar / wine fridge temperature not kitchen fridge temperature. I started 94 and 4 hours later ended somewhat lower…. 93 a compromise, not where it ended up.

Love this. Seductive dark berries and vanilla oak. Meatiness and a touch of stalkiness, brown spices and fresh cut garden herbs. Velvet grip and fresh wash of acidity. Enough length. I’ve seen a few reviews saying this is a reminder of just how good the wines made from the Estate Clonakilla vineyards are, but that is a strange comparison, as price wise this costs one third of the usual Estate Shiraz offerings, and is placed somewhere between Hilltops and O’Raida, neither of which feature much if any grapes from the Estate.

Big nose of mint and cigar box. Definitely Coonawarra! Also some green capsicum, but of a proportion to round things out, not detract. All the above continue in the mouth, with blackberry high in the mix and some black currant. Dusty tannin, excellent balance, and adequate length.

Strawberry, cherry, autumn leaves, something like nutmeg. Slightly stewed. Silky and slippery, fine powder tannin. Ample length. Texture lets you know this can’t be anything other than Pinot, but it’s an oddball, albeit an enjoyable intriguing drop. Winery is in Mudgee, grapes are from Adelaide Hills and Southern Fleurieu.

Brightly fruited and a joy to drink. Label notes hit nail on head on the flavour profile - red berry fruits, black cherry, forest floor and hints of earth. Little bit of grip on a palate that for the most past glides and slips. Ample length.

By Clonakilla SV standards this is almost shy, so the main first impression is outstanding balance and length. Delicate but with great drive. Given an hour of air in a jug it begins to open. Little florals then dark fruits with hint of a jubey touch, roast meat juices, an array of spices. Perfect balance and fine threads of tannin on a finish of outstanding length. Last glass after two hours extra air had more fruit power, with balance and length still so impressive.

Cassis, blackcurrant, black olive, black tea, touch of mint, waft of wallet leather, and the merest hint of cigar box. Fine powder tannin, medium bodied, and ample length. Screwcap, still so fresh and concentrated, and perhaps strangely I wanted to mark it down for that as I’d like to see more aged character by now. Alas my 4th and final bottle of this vintage, as I’d like to try another bottle when it hits 20 years old…. wonder if it will have changed much. Touch and go for 93.
