My last bottle. Consistent profile to prior years, just a bit softer with the added age. A very good producer with age-worthy wines at a reasonable price point.

Wow

8/24/20, 1:05 PM - I didn't decant it, though the bottle stayed open for about 30 minutes in a cool brique prior to pouring (and it came out of the cellar at 55). We had it with grilled marinated skirt steak and it was just wonderful. Thanks for writing!

Drinking quite well. Rich dark fruit showing through revolved tannins. One might argue too resolved, but the structure is there. Funky notes of earth and a touch of spice round out the palate. Long, full finish. Really delicious. Wish I had more.

Mostly Young Loire Wines (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Full yellow. Cut hay. Medium weight, which makes it pretty light compared to other Chenins. All soil, minimal pear, sour finish. Your basic funky low end Savennières, meaning not very good. I've had way better from d'Epiré.

I believe this is 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 30% Abouriou, aged in old foudres and barriques. The Abouriou is whole cluster and undergoes carbonic maceration, the other two cepages are destemmed and fermented in open-air cuves.

This is a delicious young wine, intense and richly flavored but very fresh, with earth-driven dark red fruits and a moreish, saline/mineral edge. There are slightly scrubby tannins on the finish. There's real complexity here and a satisfying savoriness that makes this wine more than fit for the table. Pretty great QPR at $17.
