Bright ruby color. Fig, balsamic, red currant, ash, tart red fruits and new leather. Seems to still have prominent levels of alcohol and may need some additional time in the bottle. Though other 2010s have been drinking in their prime, this one seems young, carrying a lot of potential and is in need of time.

Cork was soft, needed an ah-so. Decanted right after openning. Bright, youthful brick red color with an amber rim. Red currant, raspberry, toasted caramel, barnyard and sandlewood. Weight of a fine burgundy with a spattering of herbs and oily orange peel rubbed on saddle leather. Really pleased with this wine and quite stunned this is almost 40 years old. Easily the best showing of this wine we’ve had to date and seems to keep getting better in the glass. Hurray for the little man!

Deep garnet, almost onyx color. Big dark fruits with some dominating heat prior to decanting. Decanted after the first glass - Firm tannins and structure with loads of red currant, smokey anise and cassis. Juicy blackberry with pretty new leather and sweet oak. This bottle seems much younger than the last we tried from this case and could easily evolve another 5+ years. Actually saving a glass to try another night … stay tuned.

Night 3 - drank very similar to night 1 - structure holding firm.

Rust red color. Shoe leather, light oak, mulberry, tart cranberry and a medley of herbaceous notes. Chalky tannins glide across the palate in this light weight wine with brûléed flavors intertwined and a slight hint of dried fruits. After reading other comments, we’ll decant and wait a few hours before enjoying to see where that takes the wine.

Bright garnet color. PNP. Lead pencil, graphite shavings, sweet oak, eucalyptus, ripe raspberry, light hoisin and lavendar. Simply amazing structure and beautifully rounded, soft tannins. The flavors dance and glide around your mouth so gracefully. This wine is incredible and may be one of the best wines we’ve had. It completely makes sense why Harlan is consider a first growth of CA - not sure we’ve ever had an almost 30 year old California wine taste so perfect, exciting and vibrant. This wine is our oldest lab’s namesake. After an hour of being open, the pure essence of CA Cabernet is at its finest… how does this keep getting better?!
