Had this on a 1/2 price wine night ($49). Glad it wasn't full price. It was good, but at full price the QPR is horrible. Fruit forward with little tannic structure. Very straightforward with little complexity. Not what I'd expect for a wine at this price.

Beautiful nose on opening of flowers forest floor and black fruits. Very giving nose right off the bat. Pure silk in the mouth with dark plums and currant flavors. Merlot rounds this out quite a bit as this goes seamlessly into a somewhat clipped finish. Tannins are present but almost completely concealed at the moment. With air and some time in the glass the tannins firm up a bit and allow the finish to build significantly. I would give this just about an hours decant to let the structure show. I left some of this in the bottle overnight at 55 degrees and everything has stepped up a notch with air. Last glass is 97 points and ridiculously good. Tannins have a,little ore grip which suits my palate. 95+. Now I'm even more upset I got shut out on the True Cabernet.

Very much like my last notes: An elegant wine, more so that past vintages. Medium dark dry fruit, berry, some plum, cassis, and just a hint of some earthy funk essence. There is mild extraction to this wine, but still, the components of this wine are coiled, suppressed, so there is a need for bottle age. It's difficult to predict the future for this Cab, but I think it will get better. This is a polished, quality Napa Valley Cab, light to medium bodied wine with some acidity and I do like it. If it were more reasonably priced, say in the $60-$80 range, I would continue to buy this Cabernet, but a price that is north of $100? Well, there are values in the Napa Valley that are far better for my money.

4/16/17, 11:56 AM - I could not agree more. When I first started buying this is was in that range and they've really jacked the price the past few years. I'll be leaving this allocation in search for something new and better QPR. Will definitely check your suggestions!

This has got to be one of my favorite zins. First off I have a love affair with Howell Mtn. I love that mountain fruit. Now I'll admit that I don't love zins because they are so jammy and overly lush. Much to much pepper and spice and just like drinking jam or jelly liquified. This is much different. This is definitely a zin because on the nose and the taste it has that classic backbone but you can taste the howell mtn fruit. Much more structured. Some really nice tannins. The pepper notes are there but not overpowering or intrusive but rather tend to help this develop and open up. Beautiful bouquet on the nose and just exquisite when it hits midpalate. Nice finish as well. I'm looking at zins from Howell Mtn now because I had almost completely written them off.
