The wine is very delicate, the details are beautiful, and the oak barrels are used very delicately. At the beginning, I mistakenly regarded the wine as a Chardonnay from another winery. I also said that this wine has a very special aroma and I feel like drinking Arigot. Unexpectedly, it is really Aligot, a well done Aligot."

The entrance has a larger structure, a higher degree of concentration, and a softer texture, but there is a line running through the front and back. Black currant, black cherry and other fruits are not very firm, soft and rich, petals, tobacco shreds, and fine minerals are soft, more enjoyable, and have a longer aftertaste."

Appearance looks like it is aging early. Thin body and taste. I can't see how this is going to blossom into something very good but I don't drink many Brunello wines.
  • StainedGlass commented:

11/21/21, 9:02 PM - You may not like Brunello (at least not yet). Classic Brunello is medium to light bodied (thin compared to Cabs) with a red bricking, browning color and plenty of tannins which subdue with age. Dried red cherry and spice as opposed to jammy fruits. This is a young Brunello, Give it time and pair it always with food. The tannins ands acidity cut through fat or rich foods. I've grown to love it but it is just my opinion.

First of all, my bottle does not say Eola-Amity Hills anywhere, just Willamette Valley. I think this is overrated, and definitely overpriced. I hate the hard plastic-y wax capsule, opening is a pain and it’s easy to end up with bits of that in your glass. Is this Burgundian? Sure, in a Macon sort of way. Montrachet? No way, it doesn’t have the depth of fruit. Definitely balanced and enjoyable, and certainly appreciate the low alcohol (13%). I’ll just spend my next Chardonnay $ elsewhere.
  • StainedGlass commented:

10/21/21, 9:44 AM - Sorry the wine disappointed, but no need to try and chip off the capsule. Just put your corkscrew through it and it comes off easily as you extract the cork.

I used to love Pedro Urbina's wine. Always a traditionalist and beautifully made wines. The colour of this after 19 years was remarkably backward and the nose did not resemble Rioja at all. It did not help there was a slight sprtiz on the taste and to be fair there was a nice full fruit flavour. But not a Rioja flavour and just felt pretty empty after it.

I’m done with Italian wines until we visit Italy again or someone teaches me! Very disappointed in this bottle. Medium red color. 30+ minute decant. Weak nose of cherry and cocoa. Very high in OH and is very light. No flavor whatsoever and zero finish. I don’t think it was flawed by any means; just poor. Back to French Bordeaux’s tomorrow!!
  • StainedGlass commented:

1/25/19, 12:03 PM - If you like big Bordeaux or Napa wines, most Brunellos are going to disappoint. They should be lighter in color and in style, with a very different flavor profile. For those prefer bigger wines, Super Tuscans or a modern- style Barolo are usually better options for Italian wines.

  • StainedGlass commented:

7/26/18, 9:09 AM - Blackberry, black cherry, pepper, licorice, grilled meat and mocha, the woody notes are gradually blending into the fruity process. The entrance structure is very wide, the tannins are mature and abundant, and the acidity is just balanced, but it is more intense than the aroma – it smells like it comes from the Northern Rhone but tastes like it comes from a more southern region. At present, a lot of elements are still hidden, and I need to give the wine some more time. :)

There's much to like about this wine, but the heavy-handed oak treatment is not one of them. If I'd know about the oak dominance in this wine before buying, I don't think that I'd have purchased 8 bottles. I'm hoping that the oak further integrates in the coming years, as this could still be a stellar wine. As it is, the oak creates a flavor imbalance that leaves one drinking an 85-point wine, at best. Frankenwines such as these are completely anathema to making wine in the vineyard.
  • StainedGlass commented:

Call that "93" an amateur ranking, as I've never had a Priorat. It's a joy to find a taste profile I've not had before, especially one that's so rich, complex and surprising. Upon opening, not a ton on the nose (it grew into cherries at first) and the mouthful was rich, cherry-like, and yet not with that syrah sharpness. It felt a little rounder than that. Over the course of the evening, the red fruits died down and it became this mellow, food-friendly, almost Bandol-ian ....what's the word...quaffer. Can't wait to try more and I'm a complete idiot: I have no idea what grapes are in here past grenache, but my guess would be syrah and cabernet.
  • StainedGlass commented:

11/5/17, 10:31 AM - Nice review. Welcome to those of us who love Priorat. I like to introduce Priorat to friends who like California cabs and Cab blends. The principal and traditional grape used in Priorat is Grenache, with grapes such as Carignan, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon used in the blend. In fact, I think all four grapes were used in this vintage. Clos Mogador is a good producer with good QPR.

  • StainedGlass commented:

11/5/17, 12:01 PM - Priorats are absolutely suitable for aging. Of course, some folks like wines with age on them, and other do not. How long to age any wine varies by the wine and the vintage, but Cellartracker is perfect for determining when it might be best to open a particular bottle. You can also see what professional reviewers recommend. You opened this bottle a little on the early side of its drinking window, but you enjoyed it, and that's what counts. If you have and can hold onto another bottle for a few years, it is fun to see how the wine changes as it matures.

My palate has moved away from CdP over the years and I rarely reach for one these days. It was cold and rainy and something warm and red appealed to me, though, so I grabbed one of these to see how it was showing. Ended up being pleasantly surprised. This was earthy with ripe but not overripe red currants and raspberries, and a small dose of sweaty horse and saddle leather. It had a nice chewiness in mouth with some tannic grip and acid backbone. There was a little cough drop element, which isn't my favorite, but it didn't bother me too much. All in all a nice wine, and one I was happy to drink.

5/31/17, 12:56 PM - I understand your point about CdP, and find most young CdP to be too over the top and forward, but with age a good CdP can truly come into its own and be wonderfully complex but balanced.

Medium dark sweet cherry and vanilla; not too jammy. Smooth tannins, easy drinking and lower alcohol on palate than 15.2% would indicate. I think this is drinking well now and don't see it improving much with age

4/16/17, 9:04 PM - I have not had the 2011 or 2012, so I cannot make a comparison. But I would say that this wine does not have a lot of acid or structure which makes it easy drinking at a young age.

I was surprised how quickly the 2011 Right Bank has showed its age. It already has a lighter red cherry fruit profile than most vintages, and while it is easy and enjoyable to drink now, it is not particularly complex and fruit is starting to fade. Good, but I don't see it improving from here. Drink now - 2017.

Fresh and floral nose of soapy rose and tea - this wine drinks brightly for a Brunello with a fanciful red fruit character and a noted minerality. Heat... some say "ginger" amongst other tightly wound characteristics. Brine.

A lively and unique array of tastes and aromas, this wine is marred by a disjointed "berry sugar" sweetness I found detracted from an authentically Italian flavour profile.

That stated - this turkey would pair well with turkey!

Looking back at my previous tasting note, I see that the previous bottle also had a barnyard aroma. Tasted like a much older wine, old dried up fruit, leather. Somewhat disappointing.
  • StainedGlass commented:

12/29/16, 9:35 PM - You describe characteristics that would be seen as quite positive in a Bordeaux style wine actually from Bordeaux, which is one reason why I am a fine of this wine.

The new world wife was shocked this was French. Full bodied, purple and blue fruit. Lush, bold, fairly complex. Good finish. Not at all a Bordeux but went well with chili.

12/7/16, 10:07 AM - Well, it is not at all a Bordeaux wine because it is from the Northern Rhone! Such wines do tend to be more full bodied and fruit forward than Bordeaux, and more approachable to folks who prefer new world wines. Thanks for your note!

Dark crimson color; similar to the last bottle over one year ago; crushed blackberries and subtle charred wood and leather notes on the nose. Rich and opulent but not overextracted, with a youthful, forward mix of red and black fruits; tannins well integrated and drinking really well now. Power and finesse. A California Bordeaux style blend at its best.
  • StainedGlass commented:

6/12/16, 1:02 PM - It was pop and pour, and was quite good from the first taste, which did surprise me. I think decanting will probably help and certainly not hurt, but I would not say it is necessary.

This bottle needs to be decanted for at least 1 to 2 hours. Before the air, it is closed and too much bitterness, after the air it shows it full power of taste and great aftertaste. I wonder if this wine still will improve. Does anyone know?
  • StainedGlass commented:

1/11/15, 3:44 PM - Yes, by this wine I assume you mean the 2005 vintage as opposed to that particle bottle. 2005 is on the young end of a drinking window for a typical Musar.

This bottling of Levendi has seen its best days in past years. Vegetal upon opening. Strong pepper on the finish. Yet still smooth, oaky, Napa elegance. Lesson learned: Drink a wine in its prime, not near the end of its life.
  • StainedGlass commented:

8/28/14, 2:48 PM - How was the wine stored? E.g., cellared at 55 degrees since release versus room temperature?

  • StainedGlass commented:

8/28/14, 5:18 PM - I didn't mean to suggest that your tasting note was anything but accurate (or that you did not accurately forecast the end of this wine's drinking window). Just making sure I understand the storage conditions associated with your note, which do vary from user to user. Cheers. :)
