Bordeaux Birthday Oldies; 2/10/2017-2/18/2017: Fascinating wine. Pale color, no browning. Incredibly complex if faint bouquet of primrose, then tobacco ash, old leather and much more I cannot describe. It's mostly tertiary but lifted by floral notes and supremely elegant. Changes by the minute in the glass, a contemplative wine. As Jeff Leve notes, the palate does not live up to the bouquet. Nevertheless, it's sound and well balanced and not too acidic. Light in body, yet still a trace of tannins, so finishes well. Maybe better ten or twenty years ago, but then again, maybe not. Lafite evolves in mysterious ways.

I have collected over 30 different 2010s. While I haven't tried them all yet, I've had a few, and this one was quite disappointing compared to all of the others. Didn't measure up to the complexity of other benchmarks of this vintage, a bit bitter even on the back end. I'm not sure this one will get any better with time.

Very dark hence the name. Lots of fruit. Few more years before I get to his friends.

4/20/16, 10:11 AM - I got a Kobalt 2010 I think in an odd lot at an auction and liked it so I ordered the others. That's the only other one that I have had. Sorry I can't be of more help but I will keep trying them!

Was the last bottle of a relatively long night, and it did drink a bit like a dessert wine. Cloying sweetness, left my lips feeling sticky; this must but what people mean when they talk about a 'blueberry milkshake' wine. It calmed down a bit on night two, but even for me who prefers the new world, fruit driven style, this was way over the top. Reminds me of the winery itself; nice veneer, but not a lot of substance.

3/27/15, 12:16 PM - Key part is better after opening. May have given too many points (me not you) because of the improvement. They openly told me at the tasting room there are some they open for two days before they pour a second glass!

92? Must be a really big Jayson fan. I didn't find this wine to be rated that high. There was way too much acid for me. The 2010 just wasn't as silky smooth with the mouth feel that I'm use to from Jayson. The fruit was faint, short and the wine was way over oaked

Unbelievable! Shared a bottle with a few friends at my bar and we were blown away. The idiots that are saying this particular vintage expression from Caymus is awful need their head examined. This is arguably the BEST vineyard in California. Stop being a hater! Parker gave this bottling a 96. 96! Hello? Buy as much of this as you can procure/afford!

Similar to others' experiences: a huge, sweet, overripe extravaganza. Tastes like it was made in a laboratory, not by a wine maker.

Bizarrely, I did not hate it, perhaps because this is what I have come to expect from Caymus more often than not. (I do like the basic Cab for what it is; this one was more like the typically over-the-top Special Selection).

Bottle 1/12. A concentrated and tightly-wound Percarlo. Complex nose with fruit, floral and toasty oak notes. Very pleasurable now but deserves a long decant at the moment. Better after 2015.
