2015 Torrin Akasha Paso Robles Syrah

First time trying Torrin and for my palate, I don't think Syrah can get much better. Super deep dark purple and black in the glass, with wonderful notes of blackberry, blueberry, black licorice, wet stone and earthy notions. Not much of the typical smoked meat element. First sip and man oh man is this pure, deep, rich, outrageously layered and totally weightless at the same time. The mouthfeel is akin to the best Napa has to offer. The tannins are super fine and well integrated and the finish goes on forever. I tasted through the top houses in Paso over the weekend, had about 50 different wines and this stood out as the best of the bunch. Absolutely tremendous. 98+

1/26/19, 12:04 PM - CRYSTAL: I go to Paso about 10 times a year---and have been for years. Am friends with many of the top winemakers, most of whom really got started about 2005,06,07....so interested in your comment about the AKASHA...cause having a wine party next week...and I have ONE 2010 (100 point JebDunnuck) and TWO 2015 (100 point also). SO...which would you open? And which are your top picks in Paso...always interested in hearing from another Pasofile. There are so many. Did the 2015 need decanting? Or just pour with an aerating pour spout? CHEERS

Opened my last 2007 JB 3-1/2 years ago. At that time it had become more subtle and smooth.....so I was really interested to see how it compared this time. WOW! This was a mind blower! Can you give something a 100+ rating? It was like it woke up, grew up....with a nose that was fragrant made you salivate right off the bat. Smooth tannings but very dominant flavors...tobacco and licorice and lots of deep dark red fruits and leather. The flavors kept evolving in the mouth and changed depending on what you were eating. No hotness and no bite....but certainly "there!"! NOW I can see why this is a 100 point wine..and how do reviewers like Parker know to visualize how a wine will be a decade later? All I can say is: Two more bottles to go.....can't wait to revisit this in 5 and 10 years...and then say goodbye to a most elegant, amazing wine.

1/17/17, 1:09 PM - HI TP096255! (I hope this gets to you.....let me know if it did). Actually, we did not decant, but I did try a wee sip with my coravin. Let it sit in the glass for about 20 minutes and just "played" with swirling it...and enjoying the fragrance. This was without question the best bottle of wine I have ever had. I can't see how it could improve...but it probably can! If you want to know when the suggested optimum time is to open it I'd suggest one of two things: Email Sierra at Saxum---ask her to check with Justin. Or, heck, pick a special birthday, anniversary or whatever...and enjoy the heck out of it. That's my philosophy.....and when it's gone its gone. Lucky me..I have 2 bottles left from the original release! Cheers

2011 Law Estate Wines The Nines Paso Robles Grenache

Decanted 12 hours before tasting on day one and 36 hours passed before approaching the wine on day two. This wine was tasted side-by-side with the 2011 Torrin The Maven. There is a high probability the reader of this review has both wines so let me just say you are a lucky soul. The 36 hour decant was necessary to begin to glimpse the potential of this wine. Rich fruit but cottony rather than dense, nimble across the palate with a sense of poise and restraint. Already I would judge it to be the equal of my finest Grenache experiences with a rating in the upper 90's.
