I don’t think I’ve ever been dumbstruck by a wine. Until now. This is a tiger that purrs like a kitten. Huge, yet balanced. It’s still primary with a mouthful of bacon fat, iron, grilled plums, ripe cranberries, cinnamon bark and gently plowed soil. It grabs your attention from first sniff and then attacks the palate with a fruit-forward, almost confectioned, blast of flavor. Yet its purity and elegance prevent this from being a freak of nature. Beautifully, beautifully done. Popped the cork on this a shade too early. But I’ve got 5 more bottles to watch this beauty develop. If I were still attempting numerical scores, I’d be tempted to give this “100.” Did I say this was beautifully done? Drink 2022 to 2035. Outstanding.
