This has smoothed out and opened up a bit since my last bottle. A lovely taut flavor of currants, leather, with some hints of rubber. Bits of eucalyptus and mint are sprinkled in the background. Really good solid wine. This is my last bottle, but I would be curious to see how this is in 3-5 years.

Recommended to me by the Von's Pavilion's wine manager, Shoneen. As usual she is spot on. Great nose. This has nice structure with good complexity and a decently long finish. Great bottle for the money. Going back to buy more tomorrow.

11/19/15, 12:59 PM - Brig, YES! Virage is in a few SoCal "Elite" Pavilions. Shoneen at Oso/Marguerite, Michael in RSM on San Antonio Parkway, Rich on Bayside in Newport Beach, Peter on Newport Coast Drive and a few others in LA/SD that order directly from the winery. Most have 2010 Red now but those stores have some 2007 and I will be loyal to them and supply it long as my library holds up. Screaming deal while this relationship lasts! Since the merger many stores are squeezing out, sadly, the little brands that built the Vons/Pavilions reputations as locally-curated wine departments with interesting offerings...

1 Hr decant. Expressive nose of black cherry, vanilla, herbs. Medium plus body of black cherry, black raspberry, tobacco leaf, cedar. Long mocha finish with approachable tannins.

Always an interesting wine. Nose of dried herbs and red/black fruits of red cherries, currants, pomegranate and more. It's approach is very 'Right Bank'. I know that was the goal of the winemaker/proprietor. Palate shows those fruits with a finely knit texture and firm backbone. Some pretty floral notes are in here too. Tannins are slick & well positioned, this should have a long life ahead of it. Overall balance it well done on this. Finish is long and all those wonderful fresh and 'brilliant' fruits remain in play. Down to my last bottle and time to call Emily.
In the last year or two I am really enjoying what Cab Franc has to offer when she is showing her best.
