Excellent pop and pour... Chewy savory black plum compote, garrigue, fun brett. Drinking well, fine but present tannins, just enough brightness.

A real treat and quite surprising. Super bright and taught acids frame the surprisingly vibrant fruit. There is some dry vermouth like aromatics along with sweet dried hay.

Really fantastic showing, deep red fruits are still alive and well with those tertiary flavors now harmonizing together as a whole. The 14% alcohol does poke through now and then suggesting that it's time to drink up.

Lovely bottle, weighty and rich dark fruit, clay, all over a full structure with chewy tannins but plenty of lift. Even with some air, the wine is a little overbalanced toward those tannins.

Based on the most recent reviews I was concerned... Our experience found a quite lively mature bottle. It's an integrated whole, juicy ripe red fruits, leather, silky tannin. No complaints here.

Really fantastic showing. Juicy dark red fruit and soil integrated into a beautiful whole. Plenty of zip, and just enough weight. I agree with the other reviews, this is an easy drinker, though I'm very happy with the level of fruit.

Very pretty nose and the immediate fruit on the tongue is fantastic. The wine is young and unfortunately out of balance at this point. The fruit though sweet is no match for the biting tannin. If drunk young consider a long decant or some fatty food.

Lovely cool climate syrah. Olive and pepper over a crunchy black fruit. Very well integrated drinking at a great place.

Rich and brooding... Deep black fruit, slight bramble edge, olive tapenade. 14.5% alcohol can't be missed but is well balanced. Oak is fullly integrated at this point and the wine is drinking well with soft talcum tannins. Still showing beautifully on day three.

Mouthful of ripe black fruit saturates the palate. Firm structure, juicy acids. Surprisingly new world tasting, with the fruit dominating. Found a little old-world charm. The wine had been thoroughly aerated before returning to the bottle and taken to dinner, but I feel even more air is needed.

Popped and poured. Fleshy with ripe black fruits but reticent, sweet acid, firm tannin. Only started to see a glimmer of what the wine could be at the end of the bottle. Give this one a couple more years at least.

Somewhat tired, still juicy sweet red fruits. Acid is in check, tannins are well integrated but there's just a subtle stewed oxidative character in the background.

Beautiful perfume straight out of the bottle that developed into a rusticity. Fine tannins throughout the bottle demanded food with each sip. Give the wine some time or perhaps some significant air.

Beautiful showing over three days. Out of the bottle, the acids dominated but over time the white fruit showed itself beautifully. On the third night the wine was whole and wonderfully integrated, taut but not bracing.

Great showing... Still plenty vibrant, with red and blue fruits popping. Starting to see hints of tertiary flavors of loam and leather. A sip here and there will betray the 14.5% abv (2011 really?), but on the whole the wine is beautifully balanced.

A little tired and boring. Fruit has dissipated, and nothing of interest has taken its place.

Another lovely bottle... Bright and juicy fruit up front but the emphasis here was on the mid palate. Savory umami and tangy unleavened bread.

Agree with other notes, there are some razor blades to be found here. Proceed with caution. Along with the danger there is some light and pretty fruit. Canned fruit cocktail, tarragon, floral scented white tea. Very nice.

Fun and fleshy... Sweet ripe fig and plum, sappy almost. A little Sherry oxidative notes at this point and definite VA (mixed feelings around the table). Past it's prime but drinking ok with some fatty foods; think pizza.

Really fantastic. So light, dancing out the glass. Pure and clean raspberry juice and a touch of white pepper. Such lift it's hardly recognizable as Syrah. Very pretty.

Very fresh, bright, and full of juice. Cherry tabacco, fine grained tannin, long sweet finish. The wine lacks intensity but makes up for it with elegance and a feminine beauty. Overpowered by our tomato sauce, but oh so good on its own.

Lovely... Lemon curd, evanescent confection sugar. Mineral limestone immediately on the palate with fruit in the background. Roles reverse toward the end of the bottle. Give this one some air first.

Fruit forward, with dark overripe plum, fresh fig. Surprising soft. Easy drinking but did not hold interest. Drink up.

Absolutely polished wine. Fresh pressed fruit punch, mineral center, layers of flavor alternating between fruit and slight loam. Very pure, very delicious.

I guess I waited too long... this second bottle I found boring and insipid. Clean on the palate, a bit soft, middling light cherry/plum. No oomph, no love.

Quite a bit less excitement was found in this bottle than my last. Here the fruit played in the background behind savory notes of raw fermentation. Interesting but a bit funky.

Such a pleasure... Brightened up every bite of Texas brisket. Such pure depth, subtle floral sappy-fruits. Clean minerality linger through the finish.

Super fruity and fun. Tart cherry-grape-bramble soda. Chalky tannins and bright juice leave the mouth both salivating and dry.

Wow, what a showing! After a few hours in decant, the wine was popping. Remarkable fresh, sweet fruit, leather, all so well integrated. Very clean (no brett), no rough edges.

I've had mixed feelings about these big Royer wines over the years. This was a good showing. The fruit was big and solid but juicy, fresh, and lively. Solid balanced structure. The 15.5% alcohol came across amazing restrained.

Fairly rich, full fruited Barb. Bright, yet some chew. Came across a bit one dimensional suggesting some air would open things up.

Very enjoyable bottle... Juicy ripe black fruits with a bit of a granite edge. Somewhat lean and stony, with relatively soft tannin; a touch of brett. So pretty with a bit of food (neapolitan pizza in our case), a bit too austere without. However, it really opened up toward the end of the bottle; give these some air.

Ripe pretty blue and red fruits, taut backbone, little tannin. The wine lacked harmony and feels in that awkward teenage phase kind of way; surprising for the young age. The 13.7% continued to show itself even though the fruit was plenty ripe. I'd give future young bottles a few hours of air.

Excellent bright deep red fruits, quite primary considering the age. Juicy, sweet, still obvious oak. Very harmonious and suggestive of good things to come over the next ten years.

Rich, deep, dark fruits with a big chewy core. Somewhat clunky tannin and obvious oak. Young and brawny but with everything in place to be a real winner in 5+.

Very rustic showing... Primary muddled prune, leather, earth. Clean, no brett. Structure in check, but on the whole incohesive. I suspect it's a phase thing or perhapse bottle shock after a long journey.

Quite rustic (read brett), but fairly harmonious. Juicy stewed fruit over an herbal floral nest of flavor. Pick your food pairings wisely... this is a wine to complement, not contrast. Plenty of life in the bottle, no hurry.

Again, such an interesting wine. Very N. Rhone with a waxy lanolin feel and taut stone fruits. Very fun. The wine is not exactly giving, you must come to it. Give the wine some air or time and I suspect you'll be happy.
