Like many 2017’s, this is drinking amazingly well. Perfumed, intoxicating and utterly delicious.

4/11/24, 10:49 AM - Decanted briefly, but drank at a restaurant so didn't get too much air.

My first bottle of this, and it was terrific.

A lonesome single hiding in a box. Lovely fruit, beautiful wine. A nice surprise, although it shouldn't be a surprise. Mid 80's was a great period for Cali cabs.
  • BradE commented:

11/21/23, 2:39 PM - It was just hiding in a box - didn't save it for any reason. We had it with sushi for lunch and it was a great pairing. Cheers Buzz.

Corton Charlemagne and Rousseau Chambertin: Another great bottle of the 91 Chambertin. Great vintage, great producer, great vineyard - all coming together perfectly. Loved it. Not decanted in advance, opened at dinner then enjoyed over three hours.
  • BradE commented:

9/10/23, 7:30 PM - I think many 1991 red burgundy’s have a version of this issue. My guess is it’s primarily because the vintage wasn’t as highly regarded initially (for maybe a decade?). And as a result less were stored and more were drunk early. Not sure if production levels were lower. I remember 15 years ago people sometimes had a hard time assembling full 91 DRC horizontals.

I enjoyed this and it stood up well being flighted against a 1959. I'd rate this as very good bdx, but not in the upper 90's region (i.e. great) as many here on CT find it. That's what makes a market.
  • BradE commented:

5/29/23, 5:19 AM - There's no hurry if that's your question. It should last a very long time. If the question is when is optimal, then I'm not sure. For my tastes I'd hold and see if it develops further. My philosophy generally is to drink something when it's in the zone for your tastes and wait when it's not. But realize that others with good palates liked it a lot more than I did.

Another perfect bottle. It's hard to imagine this could show better. Three of four bottles in 2022 were in that camp - so thank you champagne gods.

2/1/23, 3:18 PM - Drinking this as I type, and indeed a nice wine. Lepetitchateau, may I ask who you are? Love your notes and we seem to drink a lot of wines in common.

If you’re going to open a young La Tache, the 2017 is a vintage to consider. Surprisingly open, and simply delicious. One of the group had opened a couple in Beaune recently, so we carried the theme back to MN. Most of the CT notes here are spot on.
  • BradE commented:

2/2/22, 12:42 PM - Lord, if I recall it was decanted for an hour or two, but not positive as it's been a while.

I'm not sure what was going on here, but this was just simply weak juice. Not pox'd. And like tinybubbles, I really couldn't tell what was off. You could drink it, but you didn't want to, and I dumped 80% of the bottle.

First crack at this, and yes, the quality is there. Fantastic and IMHO fairly priced.
  • BradE commented:

11/9/20, 4:41 PM - Yes, I've had the 06 quite a few times, and a good question. I love the 06, and tried to think about the comparison to myself. Honestly, I'm not sure, as both are excellent, but if I had to peg one it's the 06. But that could be because I've had it so many times and it has made a strong cumulative impression.

  • BradE commented:

11/9/20, 5:17 PM - Yes. If budget is a consideration I would say go with the 2006.

Solid, classy, and more open than the previous bottle.
  • BradE commented:

7/27/20, 6:41 AM - I honestly think either is good, but I think this has a long life. I drink a fair amount of white burgundy young, even when I think they will age. My best guess is this will easily age well, and it's under Diam so I'm not concerned about premox. So if you have one hold it. If you have two, drink one and hold the other.

A half bottle full of what seemed like VA. Undrinkable.
  • BradE commented:

6/3/20, 6:55 PM - Unlikely. From a case I bought in the 90's from Farr Vintners when I lived in London. A couple have been bad over the years but the other six or seven I've drunk have been good.

Purchased this in half bottles. A big factor in deciding to buy it was that it's under Diam, which as a buyer of white burgs I'm supportive of. A very good wine, complex and extremely enjoyable, even at this early stage. Glad I have them.
  • BradE commented:

5/3/20, 1:02 PM - Another reason to buy Lafon as well. Aside from the fact that it's fantastic!

We drank another bottle of this tonight with dinner. Decanted for about 90 minutes. Lovely, and unlike last night, was approachable from the start. Great wine.
  • BradE commented:

4/5/20, 11:54 AM - Pods. I think the 14's will drink well from early days on, but likely will last for quite a while in the cellar as well. Personally I'd drink them in the near to medium term, rather than think of them in the 10-20 year category. But well stored, they might be fantastic then as well.

2010 Great White Burgundy Dinner (Eli's Table - New York, NY): Served single blind. Brilliant wine, plain and simple. Floral with so much orchard fruit and savory spice in an incredibly Old School style. Dense, powerful and long with seemingly tannic structure. Great now, with upside. Probably even better in another decade.
  • BradE commented:

3/5/20, 5:22 AM - Al, curious if the 86 was a typo? Sounds like you loved the wine. I've really liked the 2010 all the times I've had it.

Always a pleasure, and tonight was no exception. Lovely wine, and I’m a fan of drinking these at this point, not holding.

12/30/17, 3:33 PM - My friend brought it to dinner, and if I recall correctly he decanted for a half hour, then put back in bottle. We probably drank it 2-3 hours later. So it got a decent amount of air. If I was opening one at home I'd give it two hours in the decanter.

Nice pairing of 04 and 06 DP. Initially I liked the 04 best, but the 06 showed quite well and in the end was the unanimous table favorite. Both are very good vintages.

I love the 2011 vintage of the Rouchottes, but this bottle of 2013 seemed a step function down from the 2011. Will have to crack another to see if it was bottle versus vintage.
  • BradE commented:

3/19/16, 10:12 AM - William. Not sure, but there was a touch of something funky going on there. Couldn't really put my finger on it. Funny, as we were drinking it with the 2013 Roulot Boucheres. My buddy and I loved the Roulot, and our spouses preferred the Ramonet. So I didn't really give the Ramonet too much attention. We just let our wives drink that bottle and we drank the Roulot. Win, win.

Five Oeno's. The 90 Rose Oeno was our reception wine, and while young, it drank well. I've liked this wine every time I've had it, and its going to be great over time. The 69 Oeno showed very good, and time in the glass was well rewarded. Have had better bottles, but this was terrific. The 66 Oeno was the star in this setting, and most of the table liked it best. The 73 Oeno has been one of my favorites of late. This bottle showed excellent straight out of the bottle, but for me it lost a little in the glass over the hour plus we drank them. The 70 Oeno was good. For most of us it was our first crack at this wine, and was fun to drink straight off the boat. Looking forward to drinking a few of these over the next year and seeing how they show.
