What I'm looking for in a CdP. Current forward on the nose with a light, pleasant barnyard funk. Supple tannins with a moderately wide mouthfeel of current, dark cherry, shoe leather with a hint of metal. Moderate finish leaves an elegant impression.

Surprisingly floral with lavender and violets. Wide mouthfeel with a long finish. Slight barnyard nose blew off in the first few minutes.

My first bottle of '03, I'm somewhat disappointed. Immediate nose of barnyard funk that dissapates somewhat but never fully recedes. Full of juicy red fruit with a bit of leather and pencil lead. More of a cross of St. Julien and Grave rather than Paulliac. If it weren't for the nose, this would be an 89-90 point wine for me.

Suprisingly good. Very fruit forward, but with good structure and a lingering finish. Lots of red fruit and a hit of cassis on the front, and a satisfying wide blackberry jam finish.

Very nice -- what I look for in a champange. Great toasty, yeasty nose. Fine bubbles, citrus and butter on the palette with a long, wide finish with a bit of a tang.

Nice berry nose with integrated tannins. Rich mouthfeel with moderate finish. Will drink well over the next 4-5 years.

Not as good as previous bottle. Obviously past it's prime, thick garnet rim. Nose has minor shoe leather, but devoid of most other nose except alcohol and a bit of caramel. Smooth and narrow on the mouth, a bit watery with a short finish. Somewhat disappointing.

I've always loved this wine and this was the best bottle of the '82 I've had to date. Amazing trademark HB nose, tobacco, shoe leather, slight feminine alpine flower scent and ALL Bordeaux. Exceptional mouthfeel, wide across the palette, yet focused, just the slightest hit of gravel, the tannins are perfectly integrated. This wine was absolutely at its peak. Finish had a nice surprise bite/burst about 15 seconds in and continued for more than a minute.

Decanted and let breathe for 45 minutes. Still very tannic and full of fruit. Settled down a bit after an hour. Great nose of cassis, leather, red fruit and a hint of pencil lead. Lots of currant and tannin on the attack, somewhat watery middle and a nice, medium finish. Try again mid-2006.

Seems to be slightly off. Peaked and fully integrated, tasting slightly metallic with an unbalanced mid-palette. Not the same wine as I tasted at the winery two years ago.

Fully mature and starting to decline. Has the bouquet of a mature Bordeaux, but the fruit has left for a carmelized attack. The finish is smooth, but hollow and short. Drink yesterday.

Still tannic and the fruit is starting to fade. Basic, good Bordeaux. Hold out until end 2005 - early 2006 to give tannins another chance to resolve. Much more mellow drinking 2 days later, but finish has faded.

Very bright and intense -- definitely isn't confusable with a Shiraz. Bright red, metallic fruit on the attack with a balanced finish. Will drink well for the next 3-4 years.

Okay, it wasn't quite as crappy as before, but it still is weak. Berry flavors on the nose with a tangy metalic bite and a short slightly sweet finish. Glad I'm out of this wine.

Doesn't hold the promise I thought it had in 2001. Nice berry nose with dark fruit, dusty tannins on the attack with moderate with and a bit of a puckery finish. Fruit is starting to fade, tannins still need another year or two. Try again mid-2005.

After drinking the 2001's I was rather disappointed. A very tasty wine with good purity and fine tannins that aren't quite fully integrated yet. Finish is somewhat abbreviated. Nose is of red fruit and spice with a typical Pride mid palate.

Nice spicebox nose with bright red fruit on the front of the palette widens into a bit of an acidic bite and finishes with noticable fine tannins. Moderately long finish. Pretty enjoyable, tannins will continue to resolve, I think the fruit will hang on. Try again end of 2005.

Pretty amazing. Insane trademark nose from the first second the cork was pulled. Took about 30 minutes to settle down. Everything you look for in a Haut Brion -- complex nose, tobacco, shoe leather, dark fruit and a hint of lead with a finish that goes on and on. Drinking well now, but it's got another 5+ year until it's anywhere near its peak.

I had this wine 2 months ago and it was an amazing etheral 100 point wine, so I was really looking forward to this tasting. Fill level was good, there was a bit of seepage around the cork and the cork slid out a bit easier than I would have liked. Unfortunately, the bottle was corked. That said, I couldn't bring myself to not drink any and tried my best to drink around the TCA. Great mouthfeel and awesome finish, but I'm unable to rate the bottle. Bummer.

Initially a bit disjointed and monodimensional, strong berry and olive flavors on the nose with moderate tannins and a bit of a hot finish. After 45 minutes being open the nose completely changed to something vaguely Bordeaux-like and the palette smoothed out with a bit of spice, leather and a hint of mint. Fairly enjoyable, but didn't live up to the hype.

Deep ruby wine with big floral nose of violets, dark fruit, spicebox and a touch of mint with no oak or woody tones at all. Very juicy mouthfeel with lots of fruit and plenty of fine tannins. Widens on the mid-palette with notes of pencil lead, shoe leather and rich fruit. Moderately long finish. I really do like this better than the regular L-R bottling (both 95 and 96). Very enjoyable now, the tannins will probably resolve a bit more through 2006-7 with a nice drinking window after that.

Fill level was into the neck and the cork in suprisingly good shape. Wine is out of it's prime, very nice mature Bordeaux nose, consisting mainly of spicebox, shoe leather and tobacco. No fruit left and a moderate finish. Good structure still and enjoyable with food. Imagine the '70 Pichon Lalande minus any fruit attributes.

Still very enjoyable, though it appears to have hit its peak. The tannins are fully integrated, the nose is full of dark fruit and wet earth. It is smooth and wide on the palette with a bit less fruit now and a hint of carmelization. Finish is moderate. Drink up over the next 2-3 years.

Wow, this is everything I want in a great Bordeaux! Amazing mature nose of tobacco, shoe leather, pencil lead and spice box. Refined mouthfeel with rich wide fruit and an incredible finish. An hour after opening the mid palette just exploded and behaved like a wine 15 years younger. Good to the last drop.

Okay, I was a bit hard on the wine last time. Still not great, but it has come together and is on it's downward slide. Slightly musky nose with little fruit. Mouthfeel has improved, but lacks in fruit and has a slightly minty, metallic finish. Rim of the wine is amber with a white edge. Definitely doesn't live up to WS's rating.

Nose has a lot of dust with a bit of off odor still. Incredibly juicy on the front palette with lots of fruit with noticable tannins. Smooth in the mid-mouth with a moderate finish. Would be a couple points higher if the nose wasn't so offputting.

I initially liked this wine, had a nice nose and ripe almost sweet mouthfeel. But after about 30 minutes being open the nose became a bit pungent and metalic with a hint of barnyard and the sweetness dominated. Okay for a house wine, but nothing special.
