Had with steak at Stripsteak in Honolulu The Sommelier aerated and decanted it

A lovely example of California cab that paired beautifully with the steak

It may be the company but I’m feeling a 91. The acidity was high on opening but it settled in nicely.

I spent some time arguing with myself on 88 or 89. I decided I was wasting time and gave it the 89. You might think lower and half of me would agree

All that said I enjoyed this wine but felt something was holding it back from being better.

This needs air…………

The more the better.

So tight at first pour. So much better after 3 hours. It was singing with very salty chips. My goodness so good

I’d guess more age would help but the cork crumpled so I’m not sure that this bottle would have aged much more.

Bottom line it’s delicious after it gets a lot of oxygen

I waffled over 89 or 90 points and gave it the 90 because I couldn’t give 89.7. It’s a lovely wine and a great value. A perfect 89+ almost 90

Give this at least 2 hours. Maybe more

Good at first (used a Vinturi after an hour) and for 20 you’d expect that’s it. But after 2 hours later it’s opened up and still opening.

This grabbed my attention after a small pour through a Vinturi. Dark ruby

Smooth with a pencil shavings nose

The next pour was straight from the bottle and thicker and the pencil shavings were gone. Peppery in a great way

With more time yet thicker still smooth but the bite of pepper

Beautiful

I’m sad I have one bottle

It started out a little thin but with air it took on weight and really bloomed.

On day 1 I judged this 86 or 87. But it progressed with time.

The second half was corked for day 2, and it was much much improved. Not quite enough to get to 89 but I considered it.
