3/17/24, 7:05 PM - I couldn’t agree more with your comments. I bought a ton of 2010 Brunellos and they were all better as younger wines. And, cooler less hyped vintages have produced better wines from my experience.
6/13/23, 2:23 PM - You’ll be happy to know that they will no longer be making Pinot Noir.
6/13/23, 3:09 PM - Not sure what the final vintage is though…
7/27/22, 12:29 PM - Sounds amazing, I’m sitting on 1 bottle. Any thoughts on food that this might pair well with? Spicy Asian fare?
5/11/22, 4:30 AM - Bummer. It took me around 30 bottles before I came across a flawed bottle from Ridge. Probably the longest stretch for any producer I’ve followed. Luckily these are few and far between. Still hurts, though.
3/12/22, 10:12 AM - I agree 100% in regards to the 2019 vintage as it is a whopping 86% Syrah. Past vintages with higher percentages of Grenache were more interesting.
3/25/21, 9:36 AM - Good note, I agree on the cellaring potential deteriorating in the recent past. Why do you think that is? Winemaking techniques? I’ve found a lot of bottles with volatile acidity, which is obviously a flaw but not fatal. Picking grapes too late? I have found that the huge scoring wines lately are wines aged in some amount of French oak but I’m not really interested in that style, though it should increase aging potential.
12/10/20, 4:00 PM - So strange about the oak. Every source I could find says that the wine sees no new oak and only 660 gallon Salvonian casks. I haven’t had my ‘10s yet but will be on the lookout for this.
3/6/20, 9:42 AM - Very confused by this wine as well. I used a Coravin to try it last November and it was one of the most impressive reds I had tried that year. Opened the same bottle last month and it was a huge disappointment. Could have been affected by the Coravin. Not sure what’s happening but I have 3 bottles left.
5/9/19, 10:12 AM - Nice review. Further to your assessment, I recently had this in a blind tasting with 5 other wines and I confused this for a 2011 Round Pond Rutherford Cabernet and thought the Round Pond was the Ridge Merlot. A substantial and serious Merlot.
11/22/15, 12:19 PM - I agree, my recent bottles have been too hot/alcoholic for my liking.
1/27/15, 3:11 PM - Il Marroneto is a fairly northern location so the wines are always characterized by higher acidity and minerality than warmer more southern sites. I'd give these wines another chance in a few years. Or, you can sell them to me!
1/13/14, 6:45 PM - Antonio Galloni, formerly of the Wine Advocate, scored the wine 94 points, which is a really big score from him. Interestingly, the last bottle I had seemed to show the structure falling apart a bit...
12/3/13, 7:39 PM - Great review. Where did you get such a rare wine?
7/21/13, 8:28 PM - uh oh...will my case last til 2014??
5/6/13, 4:48 PM - Been waiting for a solid review of this wine. My 3 will be sleeping for a while I reckon. Nice one!
3/10/13, 9:13 PM - I agree - I almost took out a waiter with that glass cork...
1/8/13, 9:50 PM - I love this wine. What's a wine-a-thon??
