2000 Château Palmer Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend (view label images)
This was popped & poured and enjoyed on a warm summer night outdoors. Very perfumed nose with flavors of black and red fruits, spices and hint of cigar box and oolong tea. What is striking about this wine is the silky texture which has a sensual quality to it. The balance is impeccable here, like a ballerina full of grace and finesse. This wine is entering its early drinking window. The 1983 Palmer has always been one of my all-time favorite Bordeaux. It will be exciting to follow this wine’s evolution to see how it compares to the 1983. WOW!
White
Delicious fresh pineapple and citrus fruits, flint stone, sharp acidity, & minerals. It is the texture of this wine that is always so appealing.

Had this 2 years ago and that bottle was full of barnyard and was very ripe. This bottle is a clean bottle with a very floral nose. Flavor profile is consisted of sweet but fresh red and black fruit, good sap, very silky tannins and with good acidity. This wine is elegant and classy. For a 2009, this is drinking remarkably well but this will continue to improve with more age.
Red
2006 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg Richebourg Grand Cru Pinot Noir (view label images)
This wine is entering its early drinking window. Sweet raspberry, blackberry, plum & Vosne spice. The fruit is rich, elegant, complex & in perfect harmony. This wine will continue to improve for years to come. A joy to drink.

Green apple, lemon, grapefruit with a hint of tropical fruit and Honey. Very bright acidity and good minerality. This bottle was more mature than the prior bottles we had in the past few months.

This wine had the signature nose of Prieur Musigny – very floral and seductive. The wine was rich with sweet red fruits. What was lacking was precision and grace. Nonetheless the wine was fantastic and will improve over the next 10 years.

The nose was not very aromatic and fell short of expectation. This bottle was opened about 2 hours before dinner. When first poured the wine showed more sap and an interesting panoply of burgundy flavors but faded out rather quickly. The wine was relatively light, not very complex and underwhelming.

Had this wine with kobe steak. This wine was not decanted and was opened about an hour before dinner. Aromas of earth, spice, rose petals, red fruits emerged in the glass 30 minutes after pouring. Big, rich, concentrated flavors of red fruits, tea, earth. The wine was still tannic and would require more time to actualize its full potential.

Had this wine with Chinese seafood at NBC Seafood Restaurant. To my relief no signs of any premature oxidation. The color was bright yellow with aromas of pineapple & citrus fruits. Good acidity with somewhat of a medium to full-bodied flavors and good balance with minerals and a medium finish. If tasted blind I would have guessed that it was from younger vintage. Not a very complex wine but one that afforded plenty of drinking pleasure.

Had this wine at dinner at Bandera. Deep purple, tannic, rich, big, reasonably balanced, moderate complexity, good finish. Wine slightly improved, became less edgy, when we had it the following evening.

Complimentary of Ophelia & Steve when we ran into them at Nanban-Kan. This is the most forward bottle we have had to date. It has beautiful aromas of green apple, yeast, lemon, with rich, round, fresh citrus, followed by a terrific, lengthy finish. I would have preferred a little more acidity but overall very delicous and ready to drink!

Brought this to Nanban-Kan to enjoy with dinner. Yeasty, toasty, dry, green apple, round, short finish, medium acidity. We ran into some friends who offered us a glass of their 1997 Salon, and so we drank this side by side. Needless to say, this champagne came up a little short in all of the attributes that make the Salon so delicious. At the end of the day, even though this is not a complex champagne, it is quite decent for the price point.

This wine was complimentary of Steve & Ophelia when we ran into them at Nanban-Kan. Nice nose of cassis, black fruits. The color was deep purple, full-bodied, ruch black fruits, elegant, complex, well-balanced. What a beautiful expression of California cabernet.

Brought this to our favorite yakitori restaurant in WLA. Popped and poured without any decanting. The nose offered strawberries and red fruits. The color was medium cherry red with a tinge of brown along the edge. Mouthful of cherries, strawberries, rose petals & tea leaves. Not a complex wine with an attitude, but an unassuming, lovely wine that offered lots of drinking pleasure. It paired really well with grilled chicken meatballs, chicken wings & pork sausages. This wine did not have the green meanies.

Have had this wine on numerous occasions and each time it always exuded so much class & appeal. Very attractive nose of violets, smoke, blackberry, with waves of concentrated black fruit, cassis, complex, well-balanced, and was quite stunning. Normally this wine would be WOTN for me, but on this night, it was eclipsed by the 1983 Palmer, 1982 & 1990 Chateau Margaux.

This wine was served next to the 1983 Chateau Margaux. I was dying of curiosity as to which of the two wines would show better, and on this night, this 1983 Palmer was a fantastic bottle. It had very attractive bouquet of raspberry, smoke, leather, and the wine was perfectly harmonious, elegant, and had such freshness and vitality that was amazing. In my opinion this bottle flirted with perfection and had an ethereal quality about it. This bottle somehow was sexier than the 1983 Chateau Margaux.

Had this wine at Rivera in Los Angeles. Had this wine several times in the past 2 years, but this bottle had the best showing to date. Black fruits, earth, mushrooms, silky tannins, well balanced with good precision. Even though the wine is still young, it is enjoyable now. It is outstanding for this vintage.

Had this wine at Nan Ban Kan, my favorite yakitori restaurant in LA. Did not decant this wine and wished I did. It was initially tight and tannic. Had nice notes of blueberry, spice, the right amount of acidity. The wine had a floral nose, and paired quite well with the lamb chops, chicken wings & chicken meatballs.

Had this alongside of the 2001 Gaja San Lorenzo. Since WS gave this wine 100 points, I had high expectation. I usually hate opening a bottle of a 100-pt wine, as invariably it always seems to disappoint. Once again, this wine due to my expectation, was a bit disappointing, even though overall it was a beautiful wine with a lot of potential. It was very elegant, classy, with lots of cherries, well poised, and a long finish. The wine is too young to drink at the moment and I will not open my next bottle for at least another 2 to 3 years. In terms of personal preference, I enjoyed the 2001 Gaja San Lorenzo more because it was in full swing.

Had this alongside of the 2001 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, at Culina. It offered elegant cherry fruit, fine tannins, well balanced & delineated, very enjoyable. It was a tad better than the 2001 because it was more approachable.

Had this wine along side of 2000 Pavie. Opened 3 hours before dinner at Saam at Bazaar. The wine had tremendous aromas of tobacco, spice, black fruits, smoke that were intoxicating. I just wanted to sniff my wine all night. The taste showed layers of black fruits, cassis, toasty oak. The wine was so well poised - it seemed as though nothing was out of place, so elegant, refined, rich, complex, even though it was almost perfect at the moment, it seemed to promise more. It clearly outclassed the 2000 Pavie, at least for now.

Had this wine along side of 2000 Latour at Saam at Bazaar. Intense aromas of black fruit, cassis, smoke, earth & truffle. The wine was well balanced with lush black fruits, licorce, full bodied, complex, concentrated, fresh, with a finish that went on & on. The wine seemed still too youthful and had a little awkwardness to it. Even though I am very partial to the Pavie but next to the 2000 Latour though, it seemed outclassed. Nonetheless the wine was outstanding! Would love to follow its evolution in a couple of years.

Opened 3 hours before dinner at Hatfield's. The nose was captivating - bouquet of violet, smoke, blackberry, cigar box, spice. The wine seemed a bit backward still but still very seductive, notes of vanilla, blackberry, cassis, elegant with medium finish. At this stage in its evoluation, the nose is more impressive than the taste but the wine should improve with age.

Have been drinking this wine almost once a week with sushi at Katsuya in the past year. Even though it is young, it is very enjoyable. Displays aromas of grapefruit & citrus fruits, with lots of energy, excellent acidiity, minerals, long finish. It is an over-achiever. After tasting this wine, the problem is that it is hard to go back to other premier crus with lesser stuffings. Will save some to check out in 2 to 3 years. Boillot is definitely becoming my favorite white burg producer at the moment.

Had this wine at Waterloo & City. Was expecting this to be more lean but the wine offered loads of flavors, very precised, well balanced, lots of minerals & acidity, and the intense finish that went on & one.

At first there was a bit of oak. The wine seemed to be somewhat closed. After one hour in the glass, the wine opened up to more acidity and minerals. May be it needs more time?

Brought this wine to dinner at Hatfield's. It was my first tasting of this wine. The nose initially offered concentrated sweet fruits, almost port-like, but the taste was anything but. Lots of black fruits, ready to drink, complex, well balanced, a great bottle. The port-like smell (which I disliked) blew off after 1/2 hour. Very enjoyable.

Just love the terrific acidity; beautiful light golden yellow color, yeasty, very lemony, minerals, long, long finish. This bottle is more ready than the ones I have tasted in the past several years. Perfect pairing with the squid ink pasta at Hatfield's. Yum!

Was expecting this wine to be "big." Opened 4 hours before dinner. The wine defied my expectation, & was complex, seemlessly well proportioned, classy. WOTN at our dinner at Hatfield's with our wine buddies. Outstanding!!

Had this wine 3 years ago and it was unremarkable and awkward. This bottle however greatly exceeded expectation. Complex in aroma with plum, spice, well poised, a great bottle.
