I could not believe how lively the bubbles still were, and what a great finish this champagne still had. Really delicious, biscuity-oaky. Really paired well with Christmas dinner of Chinese food. Loved it, glad we still have another bottle!

Still very bubbly after all these years.... Nice toasty taste, quite delicious. A great pairing with our steak dinner.

Possibly past its prime (though it shouldn't have been). Had we enjoyed it more, it wouldn't have sat in our fridge as long as it did after we opened it.

We've never been disappointed in L'Ermitage, but were concerned that this bottle (which we'd somehow overlooked), might be too old. It wasn't; it was fantastic! Lively bubbles, a beautiful bouquet, and an incredible mouth feel. You could almost chew this wine. It was delicious (bits of toast and lemon), and had a really long finish. I wish we had another one around!

We waited too long to drink this one. It was no longer special (as a VC vintage should be); in fact, it was a little harsh.

Lots of bubbles, deep golden color, very oaky. Nice for the price.

Deep gold color, lots of lively bubbles despite the age. I was disappointed in the taste, though; I thought it was a bit too heavy, even a little harsh, particularly for a blanc de blancs. Definitely not a good value for the money imho. I've read that Salon should not be consumed "young," but I wonder if this would have been better a few years ago.

Nice strawberry/deep salmon color, but I didn't really care for the wine. It was a bit harsh and felt unbalanced.

Significantly darkened v. younger bottles. Very disappointing in terms of taste. Just sort of botrytis on the nose and in the mouth; none of the nice tropical fruits or other flavors I would have preferred. I have a second bottle of this; I hope it's better....

What a disappointment, given the hype and price. We opened this early on New Year's Eve. The color was very light gold, the bubbles were lively, but there was nothing on the nose whatsoever. Nothing. Not the first glass, nor the others consumed later in the evening. The first glass did have a wonderful creaminess and very nice, slightly pear-ish taste. But the glasses consumed later in the evening tasted very different, a bit harsh in a way I associate with inexpensive sparkling wine. Reading through the tasting notes, I see that xwine on 1/1/10 had a similar experience -- the bottle wasn't corked, cooked, or oxidized, it was just not what you ought to get for a Champagne at this price point.

Wow was this a terrific bottle! Nice golden color, very lively and plentiful bubbles. Wonderful Golden Deliicious apple taste with some toast. Long finish. So full-bodied it was hard to believe it's a blanc de blanc. We really loved this bottle.

Same thing I said about the last bottle, perhaps the bubbles this time were a bit finer. This is still a marvelous champagne. I'll be sad when all the '96s are gone....

Considering this had been in our cellar for seven years, it was pretty darn good. Deep gold, full of bubbles. Very full bodied taste of toast and green apples, with a decent finish.

Popped and poured, and drank over a number of nights. Given how much we loved the '03 LTB, and how great 2001 was for Sauternes, we were disappointed in this bottle. Deepening color, nice tropical fruit, and pretty unctuous, but a bit "hot" and not as delicious as other Sauternes we've had. Guess we were expecting too much for a 2001. Maybe it's at an "in between" stage...

One of the worst tasting things I've ever had. (And I love sauternes, so it's not about a "sweet" wine.) I can't believe the wine was supposed to taste like this. (Scrolling through the notes, I see someone else had the same reaction. Flawed bottles, or is this just really an acquired taste?)

Just a bare pfft when I removed the cork told me that the bottle had lost a lot of its bubbly, and though it wasn't oxidized, it was not as "sparkling" as I would have preferred. But it still tasted great -- very toasty, full bodied "classic" VC. Really excellent with the baked salmon we had for dinner. But I enjoyed the younger bottles we've had more.

Almost colorless; never had a sparkling wine with so little color before. Nice bubbles and mouthfeel. Fairly nondescript taste, a bit citrusy, light. Not very long finish. Better with food than without, though nothing to write home about. Not sure why so many people rave about Albrecht.

Popped and poured. I loved the nose -- pineapple, tropical fruits. Smelling was almost as good as drinking. Wonderful Suduiraut taste, tho not as unctuous as the 2001. Nice finish. Overall, Suduiraut makes a fabulous Sauternes.

I tasted this today at a port seminar and liked it enough to buy a bottle. I haven't scored it because I'm not that familiar with port, but this seemed like an excellent wine. It was a bit softer than the 10-yr tawny we had tasted, and had a nice orange peel taste coming thru the nuttiness. I'd definitely like to sit around in the evening sipping this after dinner!

I tasted this today at a port seminar and loved it; I don't have that much experience with port so I don't want to score it, but I bought a bottle, so that should tell you something. It was inky dark, incredibly soft and drinkable (particularly for such a young wine), had a bit of spice, but not overwhelming. Drinkable now, but will be interesting to taste it years from now.

This was ourfirst Gosset, and we were exteremely impressed. A thoroughly deliciious Champagne. great without food. Nice gold color, nose was of toast. In the mouth: nutty, toast, and a bit of lemon on the long finish. Incredibly smooth, like caramel. Tiny, lively bubbles, but I think they may have faded a bit. If I had more (which I wish we did!), I'd drink it soon. Overall, we loved it.

Beautiful gold color. Great yeasty nose. Wonderful, creamy, smooth toast in the mouth and a very nice finish. I continue to believe that L'Ermitage is the most "champagne-like" of American sparkling wines. This was a delicious bottle. (We drank the wine in our new Zalto champagne glasses, which I liked a great deal.)

Deep gold. Nose was a little citrusy, but no citrus taste. The wine was full bodied, yeasty/toasty, but a little on the harsh side and very uninteresting. I wouldn't turn it away if offered, but I can't imagine buying another botte.

Light golden strraw in color. Relatively large bubbles, not that much mousse at all. But a very delicious wine. Classic VC toast, but not overwhelmingly so. Smooth. Fairly long finish. Not as good as the '96, not very complex, but very very enjoyable. Will be interesting to see how it develops with some bottle age.

Popped and poured on the first night. Very nice nose and taste of dried apricots. Finish not very long . On the third night, it was far far better (I'd give it a 94), truly delicious and with a very long finish. On night four, still quite good, but night three was the best. This is still a good value for the money.

Alas, the last of the bottles we brought back from Reims in 2005. Beautiful gold color. The mousse was not quite as lively as before, but still plenty of wonderful tiny bubbles. On the nose and in the mouth, a delicious blend of citrus and toast. And a fairly long finish. I think the wine was a bit past its prime, but still a wonderful champagne nonetheless.

Nice gold color. Popped and poured. Nose and taste is of tropical fruit. Decently long finish. Extremely thick and unctuous. Missing the peach and apricot flavors that I prefer in a sauternes, but quite pleasant nonetheless. Not a "wow" though. Am looking forward to seeing how it develops over the next several nights. Edited to add: on the third night in the fridge after having been opened, this had developed a taste of apricots and pineapple to go along with the tropical fruit. But the wine felt unstructured, as though it could not decide what it wanted to be.

A glorious, absolutely delicious champagne. Deep gold in color, tons of tiny, lively bubbles. Wonderful creamy toast taste. And a finish that went on forever. We enjoyed this bottle over the course of two hours, and it just kept getting better and better, with a little hint of green apples as it warmed in the glass.
