14.9% alcohol. Very youthful but drinking quite well. Aromatic nose of pepper, blueberry, and a lot of spice. In the mouth, robust and purely delineated. The fruit has a slightly creamy quality to it, but this wine is all about the complexity working underneath the beautiful fruit. The spice, pepper, and meaty notes ride this to serious glory. A-/A

Saturdays at One - Volume 22: WIMLNR

Dark garnet color in the glass, fairly clear hue throughout. Horsey nose with added notes of leather, aspirin and a hint of red fruit. Flavors of red berries with a little mint. Medium acidity, fully resolve tannins, light to medium body. Drink a long time again, over the hill and through the woods. Therefore not rated.

Delicious. I should have bought a case of this. Still going strong, vibrant, luscious, simply delicious.

Screwcap. 60-120 minute decant. Drank over an hour after a 60 minute decant. Great nose of dark berry fruit, dark cocoa and a spicy, meaty note. A sensually well balanced wine, with extremely pure, crisp fruit, great acid balance, good tannins (which still need a little time) and good length. Dark (yet fresh/crisp) berry notes on the attack, with a very subtle creamy licorice, spice, fruit-leather on the mid-palate to finish. Saved half bottle for tomorrow and will post an update...will probably wait at least a year to open my next. 92+ (definitely see this score improving over the next 2-6 years)

Opened and served immediately. Followed over a couple of hours. Dark garnet color in the glass, fairly clear hue. Nice nose of lavender, cassis and a mix of berries. Palate was flat lacking in acidity with singular flavors of red berries barely showing. Medium tannins. I'd drink now myself or hold and pray.

I was interested to hear this bottle is lacking acidity after some recent run-ins I've had with other vintages of Dead Arm. Thanks.

Pretty much the same as the last few tasters.....nicely mature and the grenache is lovely...my wife kept going back to it even thought she officially does not like red wine...she then fell asleep on the couch for a couple of hours.

From magnum. Interesting nose with lots of spices, pencil lead. Taste is all secondary - a little plum, leather. Past its prime IMO.

Initially upon opening this wine was a little off-putting on the nose with an almost pickley dill scent mixed with rasberry liqueur. The raspberry part was nice but didn't seem to gel well with the pickley bits. After perhaps 30 mins that initial hit of dill blew off, leaving just the nicer fruit scents in their place, which improved my overall impression of the wine. Flavors were fairly nice with good fruit and more complex then your average merlot with a bit of a oaky overtone and pleasant texture. I suspect that when this wine was initially released 4 or 5 years ago that it was very oaky and that oak seems to be just starting to integrate now. The price on this was initially $72, marked down to $43. It's good, but certainly not worth $72 and it's really a stretch to say that $43 is much better.

Thanks for your note. I definitely noticed the dill aspect a bottle I opened as well.

Initially associated the smell and taste very much with Alsace Muscat. But there were also some Viognier and Sauvignon blanc aromas, as stated on the back label. Good fruit and fresh acidity.

Rhone Rangers tasting (Vinens verden, Odense): Dark red color with a bluish hue. Intense aromas of animals, fur, elephant cage, crushed berries and burned coals. Wild intensity on the palate with layers of decadent fruit, cherry, raspberry and sweet tomato but at the same time it possesses an unbelievable elegance. Refined and sophisticated yet country-styled wine with loads of character, animal notes, manure and decadence on midpalate and finish. It a great joy to drink this.

3/10/10, 6:54 AM - "elephant cage" - great descriptor. Got me chuckling.

Lychee and lavender. Good, but not great. I had pretty high expectations though. we'll see how it goes over time.

3/8/10, 12:56 PM - ORWINES - I had similar experiences with this wine. Tasted it briefly at the winery and it made a pleasant impression. Picked up two bottles. I opened them both about six and eight months later and the wine seems headed in a negative direction.

Wine, skiing, and snowboarding; 2/20/2010-2/26/2010 (Telluride, CO): 15% ABV. Dark garnet, translucent. On the nose this was showing some confectionary sugar and oak. Prickly pickle oak faded with a little time. Secondary nose showed more typical mourvedre flavors of wax and black cherry. Medium full bodied with a decent finish. I would like this more if the raw confected oak didn't keep making appearances from time to time. Tasted at about 9500 feet in elevation and that might have effected my palate some, but overall a bit disappointing. 90?

3/5/10, 7:17 AM - Fair question - to me, it is a slight green vinegar note that I usually attribute to American oak. I've noticed in some Australian Cabs too. That help?
