Still had a bunch of primary fruit on opening which gave way to a beautiful, balanced, savory nose of black currants, leather and cedar. Still great drinking, but it fades after an hour in the decanter. Drink now. Excellent.

Given how broken the last few of this wine have been, this is surprisingly drinkable. The cork isn’t crumbling which makes me suspect that the bad bottles are probably cork-related.

Nose is red currant, tobacco leaf and stewed plums which is all very pleasant but there is a vegetal undertone that’s not ideal, but not a major problem.

The palette is focused and mineral, with good earthy notes and savory vlackcurrant to finish.

I wish these winemakers would stop using corks. They really do ruin otherwise good bottles of wine.

Dark fruit with some older raisin and savory stalk in the nose, with a quite tannic palette that has lost some of the fruity vibrancy that it had when younger. It might round out at but over the next few years as it crosses into older age, but for now it’s a bit unbalanced. Still very enjoyable.

Right at the end of its life now. Still some fruit on the nose with blueberry and currant as well as some nice spice and brambly earth.

The palate is soft and earthy with some gentle acidity and a leathery, dusty finish with very delicate tannins.

I wish these guys never sold to Tattachilla and continued this heritage - it’s such a great wine that was good value at the time.

Nose of black fruit and red forest berries, with leather and graphite. The palette is silky and full of delicate tannins. Drinking beautifully but will keep for another decade.

Quite muscular and still very fruit driven. Balanced perfume of dark berry and opened up quicker than I thought. Ready to start drinking now, but will continue to improve for a few more years.

This wine is now past its best unfortunately. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s not like it was 5 years ago. The core of the nose is stewed apricots and slightly browned apple pie and it’s developing an edge of raisins.

The palate has chewy acid and a silky mouthfeel but the fruit and savoury elements have dropped off so there is a balance issue now.

Good fun with a pasta on a regular Saturday night in, but running out of steam now.

Dark nose of plums, blackberry, earth, tobacco leaf and a touch of blue fruit.

The palette is forward and powerful with good acidity and lengthy tannins, and it will stand up to pretty much any food. There is no hurry to drink up if well cellared.

This is amazing value and delivering really well on power, complexity and tannin integration. The nose is spicy and earthy, with a deep rhubarb and root vegetables. The palette is chewy and textural, with smooth tannin weight and power. Very good.

Always a great value Italian white with a floral nose of crushed rocks and melons. The palette has a crisp acidity that balances well with the strongest minerals and juicy citrus in the finish. Dry, aggressive and great with food.

Whispering Hills and Shows Road Tasting (Craft and Vine, Montmorency): Autumn leaves and savoury earth notes on the nose, followed by red cherry and forest berry. The palette is stalky and stemy which works well with the savoury nose and is tight, with well integrated spices and a long, tannic finish.

Biscuity and vanilla with orange peel and paraffin wax with a lock of sea spray. The palette is silly and ripe, but with a streak of mineral and a nice, balanced dry finish with a lingering citrus acidity. Very good, drinking well and will go for many, many more years.

This is by far the best bottle so far, with some really good aged characteristics and some still-present berry and savoury earth.

The palette is balanced and textural with none of the heat or tannin weight of the previous bottles. Very good.

Moving along very nicely, no need to open in a hurry - but do decant. Cassis, pencil shavings and a lick of balanced smoke.

A nose of dried herbs and earthy secondary characteristics with a core of blue fruit and tobacco leaf. The palette shows some nicely refined tannins but with a lick of heat that is now too pushy when contrasted against the rest of the more delicate aged and refined finish. Will probably go for a good few more years yet.

This is developing very well and while it's moving into old age now, it doesn't have that clumsy transition where the fruit is gone but the secondaries have taken over. Instead it's very bold with delicate spice and firm very dark fruit still lacing the edges. The palette has a very balanced tannin structure and I reckon this will go for another 10 years.

This has aged beautifully for a $10 wine that's now 10 years old. A nose of lemon pith with slightly honeyed notes of beeswax and brioche. The palette shows green apple and citrus with a finish that is almost sweet and with gentle acidity that makes for easy drinking. A little thin in the mid palette but overall great value.

This bottle was a little disappointing - maybe I decanted it for too long, or maybe the wine is moving from younger, fruit dominant flavours to older characteristics and the transition is incomplete. In any case, it was OK, but not what I was expecting. We'll open another bottle and see how that is.

Excellent and much better balanced now that it's entering old age. Very delicate with dominant orange peel and bitter lemon. Very enjoyable.

Lots of fruit still, with interesting secondary characters on the nose. A mix of briar, earth and blackberry, but with a touch too much heat. The palette is fresh and zingy with acidity, soft tannins, but with a hit of alcohol that's a bit too much for me. Should last for a good while longer yet.

Massive fruit power on opening, mostly black currant. The acidity is sharp and focused with the palette developing after a few hours to more tobacco leaf and earthy tones. Will last for a good five more years yet.

This wine is not showing much in the way of aged characheteristics yet, but I think it has gone to sleep prior to emerging as a fully-fledged aged wine.

The nose is predominantly blueberry which is slightly medicinal and raspberry leaf with just a hint of dried herbs and earthy underbrush.

The palette is spicy and full of good acidity and chocolatey tannins which are well balanced and benefit from the slightly sweet oak.

Overall, this is probably best left for a few years to see how it develops as an older wine.

This is a pretty robust Grenache, with big alcohol and a fair lick of strong oak, but with some pretty serious forest fruit, coffe beans, and black and red currant to flatten it out.

The palette is starting to show some older characteristics and I think this wine is transitioning to something quite interesting, but it's a little disjointed right now. Hold for another 5 years.

A beautiful, vanillin nose of delicate oak and black cherry, with earthy notes ranging slate to briar. Quite dense and muscular.

A very powerful initial palette of bright acidity and bold tannins, but with a simple and slightly subdued mid-palette. The finish is quite long, and although a little sour, is still very interesting. Quite moorish from start to finish and with a good 2 to 4 years of life left yet.
