Beautiful wine. Medium bodied with light berry fruits, tobacco and mint. Really com plex and long. Montosoli is a special wine.

Dusty and dry at opening, this opened up with decanting and an hour’s rest. Medium bodied with smooth tannins. Drinking well.

Somewhat disappointing compared to earlier bottles. Somewhat sweet and disjointed, without the tension to hold together. Still enjoyable, but not nearly as good as prior experience. Hopefully bottle variation.

Dark color and good mouthfeel. Tannins were still present but relatively smooth. Well-made and very enjoyable Tuscan. Improved further on 2nd day.

Decanted 30 minutes. Very enjoyable. Good dark ruby color. Complex and earthy with tobacco and anise notes and some remaining fruit. However, faded relatively quickly and was not as good 1 hour later. Drink up.

Bright cherry ruby in color and very fresh tasting. Surprisingly spicy palette (almost like a Zin), which some in our group really liked although the spiciness was a bit much for me. Youthful and vibrant - it improved with air and still may improve in bottle.

Dark in color with little bricking. Still has a strong tannic back-bone which somewhat overwhelms the fruit (which has receded a bit). But overall a very yummy mature Brunello. I am not sure this will improve further, but should be good for additional years.

Lovely showing. Medium body, dark ruby color. Really opened up after decanting and showed a classic pencil, tobacco, earthy profile. Fruit is still very present. Very good wine from a great vintage.

Excellent showing. Dark burgundy color with great nose. Firm tannins, with a gamy, woodsy side typical of cote rotie. Very good now but has considerable upside.

Lovely wine. Really great showing of a medium young burgundy. Bright color and taste with youthful, fresh fruit but smooth tannins and long finish. Medium body. Drinking well if you like Pinot with some age but before fruit starts to be replaced by other flavors.

Great bottle that has restored my faith in this vintage. After a couple sub-par bottles over the last few years, this one was singing. Dark bronze, as always, but taut and balanced and full of energy. Delicious.

Another great showing. Great complexity, with both fruit and tertiary characteristics blending nicely. Long and smooth. Not a big wine, almost fragile, but still very much in a great drinking window now. Really a pleasure, and not just a historical anomaly at this stage.

Beautiful wine. Only from magnum. Medium ruby color and restrained nose. Terrific depth and body. Smooth tannins and rich fruit were very much in balance. Held its own with some terrific older European wines. Very different style, of course, but exudes the same class and balance. Still young but drinking very well. Will last a long time and evolve, but I always like Cali cabs in the 8-12 year range.

Still enjoyable, but has lost some of its structure. Brown on the edges, although the core is still dark ruby. A bit thin on the palate. 1986 vintage has been very tricky - the wines are finally opening up and the tannins have smoothed out, but at the same time some (like this one) appear close to falling off the edge. The best are terrific, but many are nothing special. Inevitable at this age, but frustrating because most were not drinking well 5-10 years ago.

Delicious and impressive. Dark, inky purple color with restrained nose. As it opened up, complex earth, wood and berry taste with just a gentle and pleasant overlay of CdP funk. Still very youthful, with tannic structure and energy. Popped and poured, and would have benefited from an hour's decant. I think this will continue to improve and have a long life.

Beautiful showing. Smooth, lush fruit and great mouthfeel. Tannins have resolved and delicious cigar, bramble and berry taste. This was in no way fading, but is very open and accessible now. I think it is in a reasonably long drinking window, but may not have the stuffing and structure for a truly long life.
