WOW! What a surprise. Bought this at an auction for $8. There is no vintage on the label but I suspect this had at least 15 years of aging. What an amazing drink. I'm definitely going to seek out more Mantonico Bianco passito wines.

Only the third year that Joachim had been making this wine, unfortunately this half bottle was too far past its best to be much enjoyable. Although it was possible to detect some of the power of the terroir, it should have been drunk a long time ago. As I was able to get this at an auction for a good price it was worth a punt and an interesting experience.

Very complex wine, extremely full-bodied, with an almost oily texture reminiscent of viognier. Although I was unable to find the exact blend for this particular vintage it appears to be a blend of grenache blanc, roussanne and clairette

Ruby to garnet appearance with medium-long legs. On the nose it takes a while to open up but then reveals black plum, red capsicum,, berry bush and blueberry jam, along with a herbal element faintly reminiscent of (not spear-)mint. On the palate it is remarkably fruity given it's 9 years of age, showing similar notes as the nose, with medium+ acidity, medium- tannins (the Syrah lifting the Grenache here) and a medium body with high alcohol that is kept reasonably in check. Medium long finish, somewhat linear.

This is a 'vieilles vignes', organically grown (not sure if they are or were at the time certified), and I do get a nice sense of 'extraction', with the wine expressing interesting character. A rich, generous wine. Recommended to drink now or keep for up to another 2-3 years.

this needs more time but it even now it's very nice and bold. I'd decant it.

This did the same thing as most of the other 100+ years old Bordeaux we've had. On opening it smells foul and (if you dare to do so) on tasting it's equally bad. After about 30 minutes it starts opening up and the most lovely soft fruit appears. 30 minutes later it's all over and the wine is dead, forever. During those 30 minutes though, you get to drink history - and enjoy it.

What a surprise - a delicious CS/Malbec blend from Ecuador. I had it in Quito just days before the lockdown. My last in-country wine discovery this year!

What a gorgeous wine...apart from a slight petillance on the tongue no bubbles left but fantastic structure and power.

In remarkable condition. I wonder if this had been recorked given the condition of the cork when it came out. Lovely, soft fruit, and still structure. Faded very quickly - we had a window of about 20 minutes before it collapsed.

Great nose, great initial taste but passes quickly and I found it strangely acidic and uninteresting very soon after

The bottle I tried has a large W on the label unlike the ones on Grapestories, so it may not have been the same.

What it lacks for in complexity it makes up for in exuberant tastiness.

On the nose this is specactular - 96 points. On the palate it is smooth and nice but perhaps a tad too fresh (even a bit sour - but that's a slightly extreme way of putting it)

65% Garnacha, 35% Tempranillo - very nicely balanced between fresh and light, almost Gamay-like but then also a more robust kick from the Tempranillo.

Typical Viura but also elegantly fresh - very mineral, almost a bit spicy. Fermantation is done under 13 degrees and yeast has to be added.

Too hot, tending towards jammy.

What a surprise, a wine that tastes quite good and is 1) from Holland, and 2) made of a (partially) non-vinifera variety (Solaris). It takes oak quite well. It's not the most sophisticated wine but it's perfectly serviceable and even enjoyable.

well past its prime but it's settled into a lovely smooth and ethereal vegetal-leathery silkiness with some nice red fruit to remind you of its grape origins.

Slightly disappointing after last night's Climens vertical, but enjoyable nonetheless. Typical very deep colour, quite rich but without a particularly strong botrytis nose or great complexity on the palate.
