Classic old-school claret. Cherries, earth, tobacco. Nice acidity. Began quite austere but opened up in the glass. Plenty of people will find this too dry, but it is just my style.

In a great place. Dark cherry, mint/menthol, lead, currant. Smooth but still with a tannic backbone and good acidity that should keep it drinking well for a while.

Wonderful purity of high toned fruit. Fine grained tannins. Pretty, delicious cherries and stone. All that fruit masks excellent structure, with the tertiary/secondary notes likely to emerge years later. Great now but probably even greater with patience. 93+

Ah there we go. The bottle that lives up to the hype. Beautiful. Power and balance. Dark but deep red berries on palate, with brush, herbs and wild game. Complex and delicious. Perfect with lamb.

Not scoring it because I can't tell if the bottle was off or if the sweet meatloaf, a poor match, just overpowered the grace and elegance of the wine. Would have been better with a regular steak. Lacked the depth and power that I expected. I did enjoy it though. Tobacco, earth, cassis, pencil lead, dark red berries.

Tough to rate. On the downside, too much cooked raisin notes that is off putting and distracting like many other '03s. Everything else is spot on. Power and depth. Layers of dark fruit, a little bramble and smoke. Good acidity, not flabby, despite the unfortunate impact of the hot year. Even better the second and third day. I'm sure other vintages are incredible, but tough to get past the raisins.

Well balanced and structured blackberries, currant, cigar, and rocks, with still firm acidity that is drinking well and should last for five more years easy. A bit too modern me, but really impressive material. Reflects the great vintage. Not overdone like some other right banks.

Good right bank Bordeaux, but too modern for me. The purity of '05 fruit, mostly blackberries, is there, with some earth lurking beneath, especially on the 2nd day. Not much of a QPR. Much prefer classic, low priced Medocs of which there are plenty.

Good, honest Bordeaux that doesn't try too hard/overdo it with oak, etc. Nice red/purple fruit, earth, with age on it. Great QPR, great with food.
