Fine tannins. Excellent texture. Flavors of red berries, lavender, thyme and tobacco. Extremely long finish. The tannins and fruit forward notes suggest this wine has a long life ahead of it. Wonderful, but I will let the remaining bottles sleep for a while.

Sadly, this bottle showed evidence of cork taint. First time I have seen this in an Epoch wine.

Brightly colored. Red fruit and garrigue in the nose. Flavors of cherry, blackberry and garrigue. Bold tannins. Purchased in Gigondas, this was my only bottle. Very nice at the price. It could have been cellared at least another 5 years.

Still holding well. The fruit flavors have faded only just a touch, while the secondary flavors (think anise) have come to the fore.

Medium ruby in color. Nose of black pepper, smoke and violet. Flavors of blue and red fruits, pepper, smoke and a bit of tar. This is a wild tannic beast. It is a taught and energetic wine, delicious now, but likely to age quite a while more. I love young Syrah, but wish I would have held off on this until 2017.

Bright purple in color. Nose brimming with black cherry and raspberry. Flavors of black cherry, raspberry and crème brulee. Backed by plenty of tannins, this is big and bold. I like fruit forward wines, and this is extremely well made, but a bit more overpowering than I was looking for in a Pinot.

Dark and a bit brooding. Reticent in the nose, Aromas of dark fruit mix with smoke and a bit of leather. Flavors of dark fruit, light smoke, stone and graphite. Pronounced tannins, but no heat. Served after a bottle of 2010 Red Slope, this was a completely different experience, less fruit forward and layered, more subtle. Nice.

Deep ruby in color. A nose of cherry, red berries and flora. Flavors of cherry, red berries, pepper and a salty, almost smoky meatiness that is more pronounced as the fruit fades slightly. Well balanced, with fine tannins and a crisp acidity. Excellent wine right now, complex and intriguing. This was served with a meal of Blanquette de veau, but it was probably a bit too challenging for the meal and we should have searched for a young pinot that was a bit more primary.

Bright ruby in color. Muted aromas of cherry and fresh cut flowers on the uncorking, but opened up with time. Flavors of cherry, earth and tea, but with a pronounced smokiness. Solid tannins, balanced by the acidity. Judging by some of the other notes, there must be some bottle variance as I thought this was an honest drinking Pinot, almost Burgundian in character given its Russian River Valley origins. Pleasant.
